Sleeping with Knives

I think I've told this story before...

My "nightstand" is actually my computer desk (I don't have a lot of room) and I used to keep a knife and flashlight on the desk. The knife just lived there because that was the best place to dump my pockets not because I wanted a knife near.

The light on the other hand was vital as for whatever reason my power goes out frequently (price you pay for living in a cabin in the woods I guess). This light happens to be a 2D Maglite. One night we were happily asleep until I heard the unmistakable sound of metal hitting human skull.

My cat had decided that the light looked like a nice toy to bat around and knocked the light over and off the desk... right onto my girlfriend's head. She was none too pleased.

Needless to say the light lives on the floor now and the knives are on the dresser on the other side of the room.

I slept with a Delica 4 in my bed last night. Usually I'll lay down, watch some tv, and play with a knife in my bed, then when I'm ready to pass out I'll just lay the knife down next to me. haha

Anyone who sleeps with knives is crazy. I only sleep with one, my Krein Woodcarving knife! :p

Hmm, WOODcarving knife, I could go somewhere with this...

As to the OP, C'mon - you don't sleep with all your knives in bed with you unless maybe you only have one or two. But I'll play along...

Nope, don't sleep with a knife on my person or in the bed, unless I doze with jeans on. I have slept with my pistol under my pillow before. These things though are reachable from my bed.

Ruger GP100 w/HP's and full speedloader
Blinding flashlight
Cold Steel Tanto
Louisville Slugger (yup, a real one)
Telescoping walking cane retracted so it's "double-walled"

The rest of my "stuff" is placed throughout the house.

Gave my bedroom shotgun to a friend who needed it more than I, once that's replaced it'll be by my bed also.

Gibby

I guess that if you feel the need to have a knife under your pillow you should invest in a better door and some stops/alarm and better windows. I just have a knife near my bed, just in case, but I don't see the need to have it under my pillow.

I hope you never do.

No knives for me.

+1

I mean what good is a knife at 3AM, where with a gun you'll see what you just shot by the light of the powder flash.:D

Hey Oz, I guess Phil decided it didn't count since you wanted it moved to W&C.:p

Crazy? No, not at all! I think it's perfectly normal but the little yellow fella snores bad.

HAHAHAHA I would love to see the intruders face when you fire up the chainsaw.

Do you have a leatherface mask too?

That's comedy

No mask but I do wear a respirator because I leave it running all night long so I'm prepared, it gets a little smoky in my room.

And the cat...?

I used to sleep with a Ti-Lite in my pocket. Then my Delica. But because of the dust that accumulated, I started sleeping with just my junk smith & wesson in my pocket.

A couple of times when the alarm went of in the middle of the night (false alarms, thankfully), I woke up and instantly grabbed em. Glad to know they're there.

You guys sleep around with a lot of knives. What would your "other" knives say if they could talk?

If one sleeps with knives is one required also to take them to dinner, sometimes dancing, and say nice things about their appearance? :)

Something sharp is always within reach. So is something really bright.

I always sleep wearing my Rolex Sea Dweller.

Knives, lights, watches (I think I got my bases covered)

Agreed! I have my Tissot on all the time, and on my nightstand I have my Blackberry, knife, Surefire.

Oh yeah, a 12 gauge 870 stands next to my bed too...
