Last year I took delivery of a rather fine Sub Hilt from Mastersmith Russ Andrews ....... at the time Russ made exact profiles of the piece so that he could make me a damascus version. This thread will show key stages in its development over the coming week or two.

Cheers,

Stephen

Beautiful demonstration with a wonderful end result!

All the best,

The first is an amazing sub-hilt. Actually it was one of the best knives at Blade in my opinion.
Can't wait to see the damascus version.

Okay I was wondering why Russ went with the differing layer counts. Now I know.:D

Most excellent my friend - that is going to end up being one heck of a pair of subhilts. I'm loving this pattern from Russ.

Stephen,
You never cease to amaze, nor does Russ. Fantastic steel.:thumbup:

That steel is really something else...can hardly wait to see the end result.

Stephen,

As a complete layman, I am astounded by what talented folks can do with steel. Thanks for sharing this information and the pictures. Seeing that makes the process much clearer to me.

I have a deep interest in all this, just not a lot of knowledge. ;)

Russ is taking his damascus up a level. Totally awesome.
