Snark all day

Congrats, new toys are always nice.

Experienced? No. Able to read the Wikipedia entry on it? Heck yes. ;)

(Might check with Daiz and Bladite, they out rank me in computer nerdiness.)

Thanks!

I have read the Wikipedia on it, have a couple reference books too and just started a tutorial. It would be nice if there was another BH who is knowledgeable on it to maybe answer occasional questions (I'm sure there are forums for it too but I'm already around here so much!).

You may still be able to resurrect the old laptop depending on the make and model. They've gotten a little bit smarter these days and the power jacks are no longer part of the motherboard on many of them. I just swapped the charging board on my wife's Dell, found it online for about $15, did require some disassembly to get to it, but it works great. The repaired computer might make a good gift for a young family member or something.

We mailed out for another jack, hoping an IT guy we know can still fix it. Wasn't planning on getting a new laptop but my dad knew mine was currently useless and happened to be at Wally World so he decided to pick me up a new one. He is a programmer/web developer currently doing ASP .net work and not only occasionally tutors me but also likes to flaunt how much money I could be making by randomly buying expensive things with his haha.

You've got some serious Tom Sawyer voodoo going on there, nice. I need a KMG, in case he's run out of ideas for you.

Haha! Tom Sawyer Voodoo should be the name of something that's catchy. I'll tell him you need one, but he's probably going to want to show you one of his ridiculous paychecks first and chide you for not learning web development sooner.

I thought it was made to slide one direction...

I made my first ever monkey fist last night, er... This morning. It wasn't as hard as I thought it was. Now that I've done it, I know what I'm doing.

That's a pretty snarky way to start off the day for someone that seems to have forgotten how to get into the chatroom. Just sayin.

Monkeying around?

Monkey fist, inside another monkey fist, with a crown sinnet...

So yeah, monkeying around.

I believe it is the same, except the 4 has the extra D-Ring with webbing to make it a dangler. Besides that it is the same sheath.

I've failed at every attempt to make a monkey fist. Most other knots seem to come quickly to me, so that one has me frustrated.

a lot of books don't convey it well, some videos do - keep at it.

Look at animatedknots.com that is how I managed to learn it. Once you figure it out the only hard part is the tightening of it. You don't want to over tighten it or it all falls apart.

I disagree. Once you dress it the monkey fist should be rock hard and practically lethal thus helping to ensure nothing comes loose later.

That is true but when tightening it, you don't want to over tighten it cause it comes undone easily.
