Great score Mike! I always stop at yard sales hoping to find old axes. Never seen anything like those.

I need more axes in my life... LOL

Yay it works again!

Hope everyone had a nice Easter. Friggin' snowed here all weekend. So done with shoveling...

That's an awesome score Nos! Love finding old axes; just not very plentiful out on the prairies ;) Gotta find me a double bit.

Hooray for the forum being back!

Good score Noswad, those are some fine axes. They'll serve you fine, as well as LOTs of future generations.

Started carrying my BK11 a bit more recently. Glad I did. Gave it some passes on a lansky rod thingy, like the spyderco sharpmaker. Good stuff, gives a great working edge. Been madly in love with my Spydie Urban in K390 though. What. A. Steel. Mad grind too. I absolutely love it. It kicked everything else pretty much out of my pocket for the last couple of weeks. It's starting to develop a nice patina too.

Great haul, Noswad!

Thanks!

4th from the right -- socket chisel is possibly a framer's "slick" -- if yes, the original handle was probably in the 15-18" range.

Grandpa said it was a bark spud, wants me to fix it and the small half hatchet and return them to him. Small price for the rest of the axes.

Guessing you meant me? :D Thanks. Couldn't believe they were all just sitting around. There was another interesting one in the junk pile with the huge Plumb head but it was rusted beyond repair.

Thanks, I hope so.

I found a pretty darn nice axe haul in my Grandpa's buildings today. I know several of you are axe junkies, so I'm gonna copy and paste from my post in the axes forum..

Looking for some info/ID help.

The ones that are marked with grey are all (as of yet) unIDable. They have some slightly visible logos/markings but for the most part are a bit too rusty to really see anything yet. The one marked green says

"True Temper
RED WARRIOR
Kelly Workst"

The one marked yellow says
"True Temper
Kelly Perfect"

Closer pic of yellow
It has some interesting angles.

The one marked red is a Plumb and it also has a "J" on the other side (possibly more letters but only J is visible).

The one marked blue is a Collins.

My granddad says they were my late Great Uncle's forest service axes. They both seem like stainless steel.

The one on the far right (grey, but only because there are no visible ID marks right now) has a stamp on both sides of the poll, can't tell what one says but the other looks like "3 1/4"

Also found this huge Plumb in a junk pile.

Sorry for the bad photos, they were all taken in low light. Any info would be very appreciated, especially on the forest service double bits.

New forums are going to take some getting used to....

Awesome finds Noswad, very nicely done! I've been known to come across some nice axes here and there but I haven't found as big a score as yours yet. I stopped actively seeking out old axes and tools when it started becoming popular, which has in turn driven the prices up to the point of insanity. Now my finds are rather few and far between, usually at garage sales and second hand stores where they don't know what they have... When I have a bit more time, I will take a closer look at your pics and if I can help any in the identification, I will. Though, I am sure there are folks here and in the axe forum that are far more knowledgeable than I.

Thanks! I'd appreciate that whenever you get the chance.

Here's another copy+paste from the axes subforum...

Took a few more pics.

Here are the eye ridges.

The stamp/logo I'm not sure on.

Other side. Almost positive it says "3 1/4"

Another of the Chemical Axe. I can't find another on google with a similar head shape, they're all either double bit or a single bit that isn't really similar. Any info?

Martindale is a British machete company, similar to Ontario or Imacasa in quality.
they were military contract holders from pr-WWII through present and have a reputation for fairly soft blades in my experience.

Yes, yes, it totally was....now if I could only get them back from that scoundrel Noswad!

On a related note, in my attempt to clean and purge stuff, I found the scythe blade that goes with the snath I've been staring at ever since we moved into this place 13 years ago. Blade's in pretty OK shape - but I'm gonna need a new snath....

Anyone heard from worldwood lately? Last time I heard from him was about mid-January . . .

We're talented but I doubt we could have hurt his feelings THAT badly . . .

Inquiring minds want to know. :)

Yep Nix, works fine on computer. I have yet to check on my phone. Trying to access through Tapatalk is spotty for me.

Yep, you see a lot less on a phone. I also read that Spark wont be allowing tapatalk anymore. I mostly lurk on my phone and save posting for when I am on a computer. Unless I am jumping on something in the exchange. I have never used tapatalk.

I imagine the sig lines don't show on the mobile version to make threads more readable more quickly. Makes sense. Confined space so less clutter.
There's a Tapatalk thread here if folks are interested: http://www.bladeforums.com/index.php?threads/tapatalk.1485909/
Once Tapatalk jumped the shark around version 3.0 and started crapping on its end users in its own forums, I quit using it. It used to be a fantastic, simple platform.
