Snark before the Gathering

It's got high rings, so I can still use the iron sights. I didn't really care that much about the scope, but hey, if it's included, I figured I might as well. Nice thing about getting a scope thrown in, is that it's free, and it's removable.

the problem with high rings is you may have a hard time seeing through the scope and getting a good cheek weld on the stock at the same time. Factory irons on marlins and winchesters are pretty bad. I've got an XS Leverrail with a rear ghost ring and their matching white-line front sight.

Good to know, thanks Daizee. I honestly just picked it up for plinking and because they're cool. If/when I run into problems with the sights, I'll take the XS you mention under advisement.

I was sooo drunk last night. Reading the texts between 2 drunk people is hilarious. "Dude! What the hell are you saying?"

So a Sergeant at the regiment last night brought some shock knives and mats for us to do knife fighting. I'm totally going to get actual knife fighting experience, it's pretty kick ass.

It's a real trick to use phones and take pictures with them on the parade floor without getting jacked up by a wandering officer....

I can tell you that shock knives hurt though.

This whole chat thread is useless unless you post pics, sometimes you have to sacrifice for the good of the forum :D

Do you get to take any of the gear home to 'practice'? I'd like to see a pic of the gear, sounds neat.

nah we've only got maybe 6 shock knives in total, and they seem to be under that Sergeants supervision because he seems to really like tazers and other electrical shocky thingys.

I'll see what I can do about pictures next Wednesday, but I doubt I'll get one because officers hate phones on the parade floor. I got mine taken away from me for the entire last weekend.

You'll just have to believe me :P

Well don't get yourself in trouble or worse just for some pics for us, sounds cool though. A video would be the coolest ;).

Saw this in another forum, scares the crap out of me. I love NYC and even have family there but this makes me question going there again.

The worst is when the officer wrist flicks out the knife and then says because he could do that it's a 'gravity knife'.

Left hand Milk Stout is good.
Watley's Cream Stout is good
Mackeson's Triple stout is really good...
Breckenridge usually does good with their stuff -- chocolate and vanilla porters, oatmeal stout, etc...
Schlafly usually does a good pumpkin ale this time of year.
Boulevard dry stout is tasty
Saranac Black forest ale, Leinenkugel's black ale, McSorley's Black ale are all tasty as well -- but not as "heavy" as the stouts.

Ok, the cop was out of line. But that kid was also out of order. At that point he could have said "ya know what, I didn't know that I'm not from around here" give up the knife and then go get another one later on. It was a gerber paraframe. It's a $15 knife. yes it is a hassle to get a new knife but is it worth getting arrested over... Not a Gerber!

sometimes it's worth the hassle over principle.

While I probably would have just let the knife go and walked away from it myself, the fact that the officer was able to do that to him was ridiculous and frightening for someone like me who likes to carry a pocket knife clipped onto my jeans everywhere I go. Though when I go to NYC to visit I usually don't bother to bring anything even in checked luggage even a SAK cause I know the knife laws are tough there and I actually don't ever recall a situation where I needed a knife in NYC.

Would I have fought it for the principle? Yes. For that knife? Hell no. But then again I would have also been a little more confident in the way I addressed it. You can hear from the video that while what he was saying was true (not the cop), he didn't have the confidence to back it up.

The cop, well I guess I should start carrying state and local laws in my back pocket. The phone number for the his boss wouldn't be a bad idea either.

I remember when my dad worked in NYC for BG (part of nieman marcus) there were things a knife would have been handy for, and he worked in telecom. I carry a knife with me everywhere I go, literally (the church issue got dropped and I haven't heard word one about my pocket knife since I offered to make the knives in their kitchen usable), I think the only place I won't carry a knife on me is into a court house (unless I actually can) and a commercial air plane (you can have it in an airport, just not past the security check point).

Random fantasy of the day: Go back to the 50s with all my knives and a few xbox 360s (games include everything from Halo to CoD and BF), TVs to play them on, and a router so you can have a lan party. Everything else I need is already there (women whose ribs you can't see).

Doesn't the knife have to be concealed in NYC? I'm not 100% positive but as long as it is not visible, that would have been okay to carry.

Sometimes it definitely is. If I was with my family you better believe I'd fight for it. Granted I have 4 lawyers in my family and once I point out I know what the knife laws ARE my family would step in (and over me) and make his life a living hell.

I always carry a blade in NYC. When I was in NYC last time (Spent my time in Brooklyn, Brooklyn Heights, Astoria, and Queens) I carried my ZT0350. There is no way it gets confused with a gravity knife. But I also carried it no clip in my pocket.

I keep looking for the Mackeson's but haven't had any luck yet.
I would love to sit down and have a few beers with you fellas. Hopefully I will make it down to a gathering one of these days.

When I am in NYC it is not for work and I am just there to visit family, eat good food, drink good beer (the occasional scotch), and maybe catch a concert or two. I can get by without a knife just like the many many other people who don't carry knives in the city get by. If I WORKED in NYC, might be a different story.

Your knife is supposed to be completely concealed but there are Search and Seizure laws in the city that basically let them randomly come up to you and search your pockets and if they don't like the knife in your pocket they can call it a weapon. Also as the man in the video said it has to be under 3 inches.
