campout at my place the weekend of Nov 9-11 -- head south, hang a right at St Louis, drive west 4 hours.
Or head west on I-80, hang a left at Council Bluffs, drive south 3 hours.

Well don't get yourself in trouble or worse just for some pics for us, sounds cool though. A video would be the coolest ;).

Saw this in another forum, scares the crap out of me. I love NYC and even have family there but this makes me question going there again.

The worst is when the officer wrist flicks out the knife and then says because he could do that it's a 'gravity knife'.

This kind of thing is why I almost never carry a pocket knife with the clip visible. I don't fear this kind of treatment from law enforcement in my area, but it's just not worth the hassle.

Instead, what I do is clip the knife inside the waist of my pants (like an IWB conceal-carry holster) with the clip on the outside right at 3 o'clock. My belt runs overtop and covers 90% of the clip so even with a thin t-shirt it's pretty much invisible.

I carry it tip down and with one hand can easily remove the knife and open it 1 handed.

Oh dude Samuel Smith's oatmeal stout is good, but my favorite is Founder's Breakfast stout.

Well, it says nothing about conceal carry in NYS laws, but down here you can't conceal a knife over 4" (folders only, fixed has to be visible), so I don't conceal my 4" folder because a cop/sheriff with a bad attitude that day might count the "tang" where it connects to the handle as part of the blade length and then it's 4 3/4", granted the only reason they would see it is if I pulled it out to use it.

In California concealing the clip automatically limits the size of the blade. If you let the clip show (as in, not concealing the knife) you can carry whatever big old honkin folder you'd like.

Funny how different the laws are everywhere. Shows that there is no common sense base of knowledge for what is a 'safe' way for people to carry knives in public, or if they should be allowed to at all.

Here in Michigan the law is somewhat vague when it comes to blade length - technically any blade length is acceptable unless you "intend to cause harm to another". Additionally, a number of cities (including where I work and a few I visit often) have laws saying no knives over 3 inches.

Also, any "dangerous weapon" carried concealed or anywhere in your car is illegal (talk about being up for interpretation).

These are all felony charges and not worth my risk. I solve the problem by carrying only knives with a "blade" length under 3 inches - not just the cutting edge under 3".

I don't like it but I live with it.

Gonna go make some chicken in italian dressing and some mashed potatoes, I still don't think it'll help...

That's very similar to WI. We have legal open carry, so technically, if the clip is showing, it could be a 6" folder and no problem. However, when it comes to any folding knife, the carry laws are really vague. You could interpret an Axis lock to be illegal if the officer really felt like sticking it to someone. The length is up to each individual municipality, if they should choose to rule on that. The rules on the books say no "Switchblades" which is defined quite loosely as spring-assisted or gravity assisted. Interestingly, our new concealed carry legislation negates all blade length laws for permit holders, but not the switchblade ruling.

I have a lot of cop friends and their take is pretty much, if you don't commit a crime with the knife it's not a weapon and you won't be treated as if it is. For the most part, except maybe in Madison and some parts of Milwaukee, it seems that the law enforcement community tends to agree with that.

You poor guys :(

Makes me feel bad for EDC'ing my BK5 every day.

That we can do! If it's in the open, it's legal. Bring on the HOOOOOOOOOOOnglas!

Missouri just passed a law to allow switchblades in July. I have been carrying my Benchmade AFO

In the state of Florida I can carry around any fixed blade I want wherever I go (air planes and courthouses excluded), so long as it's open carry. :D *walks into home depot with Helga and Becca and [unnamed BK on it's way ;)], people take a look at the beauty of them, then go back to business* Mission accomplished!

Awwww...that's cute. You named your nuts.

As other have added for their states here in Cali I COULD EDC a BK5 if I wanted too as long as it's open carried. However, in my neck of the woods people would stare at you like you are a dangerous freak. I felt bad for this one kid who came into my restaurant with his dad, they looked like they were from the boonies and the son (maybe 17) had a Buck fixed blade of some sort hanging off his belt. When he walked through the restaurant some people literally stopped their conversations as they sheepishly stared at the kid and his knife. I felt bad as a fellow knife knut but I am a manager so I couldn't exactly go ask the kid what kind of blade it was and have him whip it out so we could talk blade steels and edge retention in front of the restaurant and my employees.

Why not? I would have gone and talked to him. I do that all the time really. See someone with a knife and just start talking. It's been compared to talking shoes or purses between ladies by the girl I work with LOL!

This is how I carry a folder now.
And in NYC I stopped carrying at all because of the flap over locking blades and other stupidity. Now it's a SAK in my bag. 100% concealed, slip-joint, sub-3", non-threatening... what a lot of boxes to check off.

My state is 3" max, folder or fixed concealed. I *think* the law is silent on open-carry, but it's enforced as tho it's 3" everywhere - that's RI for you: Badly written and badly enforced laws run by a corrupt government.

Anyway, I make lots of 3" knives for this reason, and it turns out to be an immensely practical size.

Sam Smith's is one of my fav's, but it's spendy and harder to find. My beer-loving friend stays away because it's in a clear bottle and moves slowly due to the price, so UV takes its toll.

Because everyone else in the restaurant including my employees would have thought I was just as crazy as they thought he was. Stupid, I know, but it's Orange County and this kind of stuff matters a crap load to people for some reason. It's pretty lame. Being a manager also I have to look 'professional' to the staff/guests and knife talking to some boonie looking teenager (no offense to him, he looked like a rad kid) would have looked bad to them. Again, I know it's stupid. Restaurants are all politics (then again, most work places are, right?).

Hey guys, is Thrillbilly still MIA? Realized I never saw any $ for the Bill Akers knife I sent him. Thx.
