Redneck sheaths, now available from T.M. Hunt custom knives

Can you make one for a BK-5 with a pocket for my SAK?

Did a little grinding tonight. Rough-profiled a couple paring knives.
Also engaged in that almost-always-a-bad-idea of knife-making: making a knife from an old file. But whatever, sometimes you just have to mess around for fun.

Uh, don't envy you there. Making knives from files isn't the easiest thing to do, I've made a couple for some customers long ago. Not in any hurry to do it again.

Todd gifted me a few straight razors last night to aid my journey into getting away from the Mach 3. They're pretty cool, I'll post pix in a bit.

Oh, I normalized it first! Wasn't a true anneal... should have stuck it in the ash bucket overnight.
My rule on these, which I've never had to enforce (since nobody has asked), is that I only do these for funsies, not for customers. It's good stick-tang and straightening practice for me...

Nice.
Not that long ago I moved from electric to safety. You're at least one step ahead in technological regression. :D

I been using a double edged safety razor. I been wanting to get a straight razor but as of yet I never got one.

Managed to get ahold of about four straight razors when we started moving our stuff into the new place. Took them to Pointy to have them restored, and he did them up nice and proper. Going to be embarking on that journey soon as well.

I havent put an actual razor to my face in years. Last time I used a razor on my own face was when i was in the Army probably.

I cut/shave my own head with some wahl clippers with a number 2 guard on, then buzz the hair off my neck with the same clippers with no guard on. And trim my beard to a number 2 as well.

I use to pay 20-25 for a good haircut and close barber shave with the straight razor and nice warm shaving cream a year or so ago. And i would go every 2 weeks to keep it tight. But thats one of the "luxuries" I traded out for this knife hobby. Thats an extra 50 bucks a month i can use towards a knife. I also use to take the bus/subway everywhere.. now i walk/ride a bike as long as its less than 4 miles.... and here in Philly you can get almost anywhere in 4 miles or less. That saves another 20-50 a month on transportation. Add that to the money i saved on car insurance by switching to Geico and that buys me a nice knife every month. Ok not really, i dont have Geico. LOL. But between that and reducing my drinking, going out, and how much i spend on clothes and shoes i have freed up a nice bit of "knife" money.

Took the pup to my folks house last night for our family Christmas. Here's a pic of my kids (left and right) my niece in the middle holding the dog. They all ran and played all evening. Came home and all of them pup included slept all through the night.

Great pic Todd. Looks like the new pup is a big hit with family!

I shave my head so I don't have the stones to move to straight razors. A lot of people say the Mach III and other razors like it are overpriced gimmicks but in my personal experience my scalp, and especially the back of my neck, are much more sensitive than my face. I get way less irritation with the Mach III than I have with cheap knock-offs and the other razors I've tried. Friend tried to tell me that this one generic knock-off of the Mach III was just as good. The first time I shaved with a brand new blade I had to put an ice pack on my head to sooth the razor burn. I don't bother shaving every day and I have a cheap-o electric to keep me presentable when I don't break out the razor so I can make a pack of heads last a while.

Tease. What kinda "different ways"? I really like the looks of that second photo.

Since I think this will be mainly a knife I'll be using for food, I'm just using different kinds of edibles in order not to poison myself afterwards.
At first, I had darkened the knife a bit by squeezing some lemon juice over it and spreading the juice with a tissue. After that I made some "Tiger stripes" with curry paste.
Didn't really like that so then I used a bunch of Curry ketchup paste on it, but not in a stripe pattern but I just dipped a paper towel with the curry ketchup one the blade. Let it sink in for about an hour and rinsed. I never took the previous results off with sandpaper, so it's patina after patina. You can see some of the stripes of the previous attempt beneath the chaotic look it has now. I'm not going to experiment with mustard since in my experience that really tends to bite into the steel. I don't like that. I might try soaking the knife in some coca cola afterwards to darken it all up, rinse it and clean it with a cloth. I might try vinegar as well, I don't know yet. If I don't like it, I can still take it all off and reapply the curry ketchup. Maybe I just keep it this way. I'm full of surprises, even to myself

Same here, except for I use an M3 Turbo with some shave oil from Small Fart. Little tiny bottle lasts for months, as you only have to use a few drops. It's the only method I've discovered thus far that doesn't leave me feeling like I shaved with 80 grit. Used to get the uber-expensive Dermalogica shave oil, but the cheap stuff works great for a quarter of the price. Nice thing about the oil is you can shave in the shower. The "Turbo" part just makes it easier to rinse out the razor, as the downside to shave oil is that it clogs razors pretty fast. I have to say I also have no interest in straight razors; I don't need to spend more time maintaining my ugly mug.

I watched three and a half seasons of The Walking Dead in a week. I now want a Colt Python (Rick), a samurai sword (Michonne), a crossbow (Daryl), and (yes I'll say it) a Busse Team Gemini (also Daryl). :D Ka-Bar needs to get some zombie knives on that show. Stat.

Colt Python's are costing a ton of money these days, especially since Walking Dead became so popular. A good alternative for a lot less money is a Colt King Cobra. I only have a 4" blued Python, but the 6" stainless King Cobra looks close enough to Rick's stainless (or electroless nickle...I'm not quite sure which) Python.

Colt Python

King Cobra

Big difference in appearance is the King Cobra does not have vents in the top rib. The Python has a better trigger, but you can't see that. The King Cobra is still an excellent shooter. I also felt compelled to replace the factory grips...

Haha. That's the only busse that I've ever looked into buying. I also want that colt + low rider sheath. A samurai sword would be nice too. Lots of gerber stuff on there. Would be nice to see a 9. I remember he "govener" carried a 1211

I'm assuming you are talking about a drop loop holster here? In my mind, there are many imitators, but none can beat the old (no longer in production) Don Hume H216 holster. Fortunately, there are many available at auction sites and can usually be had for $35 or less. Some people want absurd money for them, but I refuse to pay that. The one that fits my King Cobra is an H216 No. 2 6". I believe the Python takes a No. 7, but left my notes at work and won't be back until 2 January. Don Hume still makes the River Belt (classic choice) and can also verify sizes for the vintage holsters if you give them a call. Or PM me after 2 Jan when I can check my notes.
