Snark it! Snark it good!

Agreed, the 12 year is a fine Scotch, and not expensive. The difference in overall flavor between it and some of the more pricy levels is minimal at best. Dont get me wrong, the 20 year cask Macallan is very very nice, but when I think about how many bottles of 12 year I could buy for that, it just doesnt make sense.

yea i cant justify spending a lot of money on something that... the more i like it..... The faster it runs out...

Lawless is a great movie. You'll enjoy it.

I've seen it before. Kathy knew I liked it, and got the DVD for me for Christmas. Pop, and my son haven't seen it yet though. They're in for a treat.

Holiday snark overload!

I'd like to take a swing at it. You can cut the nuts off of a charging Rhino with a mere flick of the wrist with one.
^this just about caused an intestinal rupture
I'm all out of Black & Tan and haven't been to Tenn. to replenish so I picked up some Bass and Guinness to make that version tonight.
Not to detract from the classics, but Boddington's+vitamin G make an incredible Black and tan. and you can even float it on cider for what we've termed "gestaltenbier" lemme find a pic of one....

It's hard to overstate the leverage and control you have over a 3" blade with a 4" handle.

While I agree that small knives with full-size handles look weird, more importantly I agree with Daizee that they just plain work.

Whenever I get to obsessing over knife design and aesthetics, and how they relate to cutting tools actually cutting stuff, I remind myself of this hideous thing...

It's about as ugly as it gets, but By Gosh it works. The handle is comfortable to almost everyone, and the blades (while woefully inadeguate in every other regard) are thin enough to cut really well... for a minute.

lol I like Crown and Makers both, but Makers is very very good. Regular Crown I like more than the "Upgraded" Crown.

I tried CR Reserve several years ago and was singularly unimpressed. It wasn't "bad" by any means... I just didn't think it was really better than regular CR (which is quite good!), and frankly I was a bit miffed that I'd paid $15 more for it. I have not tried the CR Black yet.

Oddly enough, I cannot stomach Bass or Guiness, but I really like Yuengling's Black and Tan. I blame that on Beckerheads... I never had it before the Fall Gathering but now I'm hooked.

Plain ole Makers is very very good in Coke too...

I'm not sure we can be friends anymore, after that comment. :grumpy:

It's a got-damn shame to sully good bourbon with soda-pop. Might as well drink Kessler's or Windsor if you're just going to slobber it into a glass of Coke and choke it down like a Phillistine or a hobo. The only thing that belongs in the same glass with bourbon or Scotch (or even Irish whiskey ) is an ice cube or a splash of water, and maybe a sprig of mint if you're really feeling fancy.

I'm just teasing, of course... drink what you like. :)

I generally agree with you there James. Normally if I want a Whisky and Coke I just use Jack. You do have to admit though, when you make a mixed drink with a good quality booze, it tastes Soooo much better.
For Vodka, I swear by Ketel One. I know people say Grey Goose or Belvedere, but Fie and Fiddlesticks on them I say!

Why would you mix coke with anything? Coke sucks! Pepsi FTW! And even when I mix whiskey with cola I can tell the difference. JD is over rated.

It's in my best interest to be biased in favor of 3" blades since it's my local carry limit. HOWEVER, I came to appreciate them in their own right. And yeah, I use a utility knife like that to cut ALL the sandpaper I use to sand/polish my blades. Yep. Even sharpen the disposables.

Here is one of my favorites. 2.9" blade, 4.25" handle. A deer disassembler extraordinaire. With a small blade and full handle with good index there's no mystery about where the tip is and where it's gonna go:

Jack & Coke makes my teeth feel furry. I'd rather have proper bourbon on its own.

Had to really dig to find the pic...

Gestaltenbier

Boddington's floated on Guinness floated on Woodchuck. Excessive? yes. a journey of malty flavors? yes.

JD is rated?
If you're gonna use Pepsi you might as well just pour half a cup of sugar in your whiskey. :D
(mods please don't infract me for trolling!)

Fixed that for you...lol

Coke from birth. My dad and I were out in the street with signs when they changed Coke. Literally, We were some of those people that were out in the streets looking like a riot.

Agree on the JD Hoss, thats why I normally pour it in Coke ..lol takes the edge off. Jacks not bad, I just have found better that is close enough in price. Better than Ole Crow at least.

I'm a Coke guy. On the rare occassions that I'm asked "is Pepsi OK instead?" I'll opt for Dr. Pepper or iced tea.

It's been so long since I made a mixed drink other than a Bloody Mary, that I confess I may have forgotten. I've long been in the habit of drinking my liquor neat, with sweet or cola or water on the side.

I don't like regular Jack at all, for various reasons... but I genuinely do like their Gentleman and Single-Barrel offerings.

I'm trying like heck to be invited/nominated to be a Squire, but one has to be... shall we say... not over-eager about that.

Also Silver I went to mail yours and psyop's knife today but the post office closed at noon so i missed it, ill get them out by the weekend though.

I have 8 packages headed out. 2 going to Australia, 1 to Serbia, VA, NY, NC, and PA. I looked online and didnt see anything about them closing early. I had a different mail delivery person all week but i asked them and they said it was a normal mail day. So around 1 or 2pm i walked up there with the packages in a ruck sack and holding the largest one. Its about a mile and a half away. i was pissed when the doors were locked with a huge sign saying closed at noon. Another mile and a half back. So ill prolly wait until the wife can drive me up there on saturday with all the boxes. I normally dont mind the walk but i have a bunch of stuff going out this time.

Pepsi reminds me of "Bear Grylls Water". I prefer coke although lately I haven't been drinking much soda-pop at all. Only when making a mixed drink. Saturday night I was drinking screwdrivers. Which mine include some soda pop. I do orange juice, pineapple juice, vodka, and mountain dew livewire. It's sweet, you can't taste the vodka in it even though it has 4 fingers of vodka. My trick for no headache, lots of water before bed.

Sunday morning I woke up at 4 am, still drunk, which was good cause I fell asleep before water. Went, peed, got my water, went back to sleep till 7, got up and was still feeling a pretty good buzz going. It was a good night!

Hmm... I've been neglecting the Buffalo Trace. Perhaps tonight.

Nope. I had it right the first time. If you're drinking coke, you're doing it wrong. I like Pendleton whiskey. It's only a few bucks more a bottle but it's smoother. And I was born in Pendleton and grew up int that part of Oregon. Most people there are all ga-ga for it even though it's not really local. still good though.

I do the same with Coke.

From a purely aesthetic standpoint I do prefer the blade be as or longer than the handle. However I could certainly live with that example!
