I have made my own beer before, and while I wouldn'treally say its hard, I will say its very time consuming. I used to make 5 gallons at a time, which translates to just over 2 cases of beer. That same five gallons was about 4 hours in the kitchen and one month to ferment. Needless to say I can drink two cases in a lot less time it takes to make it.

Yeah, I don't even mess with beer... way too much work and the stuff I usually drink is so cheap, I couldn't match the price unless I grew my own hops and whatnot.

Wine on the other hand can be about as simple (or complicated) as you want it to be... the trick is watching for good deals on fruit and/or juice... otherwise, again, you may as well just buy jugs of Sutter Home or boxes of Franzia at the store. But when you can keep prices under control, it works out well. A 5-gallon batch of 15-18% wine goes a lot further than a couple cases of beer. ;)

One of my fondest little fantasies about our dream homestead is a nice big strawberry patch...

Very nice knife Erdbeereis!!

I like it too. Nice work. I'll be forthright here though...I've never really liked long handled, short bladed knives....I mean I like the blade to be right at or longer than handle length....I'm not sure why though.

I know what you mean Todd. I find myself watching some of these so called "funny men", and I'm not really laughing at what they do. Actors like Ferrell and Rogan play the same characters in ever movie....themselves. They don't try to convince the audience that they are a certain character, because really they are just themselves.....regurgitating their old stand-up routines. And, we pay to see it over, and over and over again.

Ok, I'll give Ferrell a pass on Talledega Nights and Anchorman....Those are some good funny characters.

Rogan gets a pass on nothing....

I think you nailed it, and that's probably my hang up with them too. Talledega nights did crack me up but I thought guy that played his enemy in that movie was funnier. (his name escapes me. That Carrell fellow though I think is a little more diverse of a actor. Maybe that's what I like about him. I always like Jim Carey. not really because that I think hes overly funny. But the guy can act if you watch some of his more serious films. The fact that he spent a few years banging Jenny McCarthy warrants some respect too.

Its cool that you say that about the strawberries JT. It actually brings back some of my more fonder childhood memories. My Dad was raised on a 500 acre farm. When I was just a baby, The U.S. Government came and "bought" (more like ran them out) my grandparents 500 acres and the surrounding 8000 acres and turned it into a national wildlife refuge. My Grandpa when from working his farm 18 hours a day for years to moving to the suburbs and doing nothing but throwing a cane pole in the pond every once in a while to catch a few bluegill. One other thing he did do was plant a cherry tree and a row of strawberries in the backyard. the time I spent at grandma and grandpas house when I was a kid was a lot of time cleaning bluegill, picking strawberries and climbing the cherry tree to get cherries. I cant tell you how many hours I spent pitting cherries with my Grandma at about 6 years of age. But it never mattered when she took that fresh cherry pie out of the oven at the end of the day. It was always worth it.

Will Ferrell was different/good in Stranger Than Fiction.

:barf:

Haven't met a wine yet I like. Doubt I ever will.

I like to drink wine, but hate to get drunk off of wine. Pretty much assured I will be settling in for a two day headache afterwards.

Funny how that stuff stays with you, isn't it? My grandparents always had a vegetable garden until they just got too old to deal with it, and my parents usually had one too. Grandma also had a little patch of sunflowers outside her kitchen window, and would hang out bags of suet and hummingbird feeders to attract birds... I realize now, that was on the opposite side of the house from the garden, and I suspect that was part of the plan.

I remember clear as day sitting in the garden age 4 or 5 "helping" her... although I'm sure I ate more carrots and peas than I did any weeding :p. I still love fresh carrots and peas, but don't really like 'em cooked, and certainly not boiled down to mush. Maybe that's why...

Anyway I think about them everytime we work on our little veggie garden, and especially when we eat the goodies. :)

No worries, I'll drink your share :D

I really think it's the sulfites in commercial stuff that make the hangover so much worse. I don't use that crap in mine, and I don't get the awful headaches from it, even when I have too much.

I very much enjoy that movie.

Ya know, everyone says different booze has different effects on them but no matter what I drink I always feel exactly the same, assuming I reach the same level on inebriation. I make a point to drink some water before I go to bed and I've never had a bad hangover. The other night I was so plowed I woke up to pee and was still drunk six hours after I stopped drinking. I was hungry too so I walked two blocks to get some breakfast burritos with a decent buzz going.

These just came in the mail today

Top two are made by a company called Enlan, the EL-04 and EL-02. They're Chinese but the quality is really good for knives that sell for $15-$20 shipped. The biggest annoyance is that they use specialty screws for the pivots to replicate the look of higher-end knives. The do look neat but I'd rather be able to adjust them as they're just a hair tight. They'll loosen up with time though.

Under those is a Kershaw One-Ton. The lock bar on the frame lock is really stiff to the point I almost need two hand to close it. It's so bad I might actually try to exchange it and see if it's a fluke.

The bottom is a Schrade SCHF13. I was expecting something closer to a neck knife but it's actually more comparable to a BK16, though the blade is probably an inch shorter. Judging by the weight I'm guessing the handle is not skeletontinzed. A beefy little knife for sure and would probably be a decent bushcrafter. And it's a bit under $35. The kydex for the sheath is really thin though and I wouldn't be surprised if it loosened rather quickly. It would be easy to copy the design of the sheath with thicker kydex though.

Wine also dries you out more, which is about 75 pct of what a hangover is from.

Bighoss id like to see that top one next to a manix 2. the handle looks really close to the same. Might be a cheap may to get aftermarket scales for the manix LOL

I was thinking it looked a bit like a manix 2. But whatever fabric they used for the green in the scales is fuzzing where they contoured the scales to expose the colors. Makes me wonder how durable the scales are. It does feel nice though so maybe it was on purpose.

I was checking them Enlan's out and ran across a Kershaw 1920.. Thats a neat looking knife/tool.

Yeah, a big glass of water or Gatorade before drinking any kind of booze, and again before bed makes a huge difference in how you'll feel the next day.

In my wannabe rockstar days I used to mix Gatorade and vodka or gin all afternoon, to warm up for the beer and whiskey all night :D

It's hard to overstate the leverage and control you have over a 3" blade with a 4" handle.

I'd like to take a swing at it. You can cut the nuts off of a charging Rhino with a mere flick of the wrist with one.
