Snark it! Snark it good!

You can not want it, you just can't not have it. Not wanting to not have a five is not sacrilege. However since you can't not have a five that would make not not having a 5 is just blasphemy!

In all seriousness, it just doesn't appeal too me that much. I really don't see a need for it, I guess.

I actually understand. The two didn't appeal to me. When I actually got one in my hand, it was a different story. The 5 is a surprising blade. But it was also one of my first big Beckers so it probably holds a dearer place in my heart than most. My first of course being a 3.

We were using the 5 as our general camp cooking/prep knife for the last two weeks. Unsurpassed.

There was a show back in the late nineties early two thousands that was based in England. It was a DARK show it was great. I wish I could remember the name of it. I'm definitely a fan of dark shows. Although it isn't always the case. Case in point, Big Bang Theory. Do love that show.

Jekyll ?

Well that was weird... I posted to this thread and it somehow went do a different thread,

Good morning! Hope everyone had a blast last night! It was like a battle zone here, I had to cage up my little shit-tese . So many people lighting off m1000's and whistle rockets, it was loud! From midnight til about 3 am non stop.

Yarrr...

It is just horrible living in the boonies and listening to silence.:D

I thought about getting the wife a 5 for camp cooking.

This made my head hurt. And I haven't been drinking! And only had one beer last night.

Its great for cutting and chopping all sorts of things

It's really really good for cutting a whole rib-eye into individual steaks.

Yes. Yes it is! Or a prime rib roast into slices.

I like my 5 much more than my 9... it just has more uses.

but, you can't not have a 9

Doc

I mostly see people using the 5 for kitchen duties. We have plenty of knives for that. I know it does other things as well, but mostly that's what I see. Like I said though, I had considered the 5 for the wife. I would more than likely get her a 15, tbh.

I don't want a 5. I can too not want to have a 5.

I felt the same way, Dubz. If Ethan and Ka-Bar hadn't graciously gifted me with one at the Northeast Gathering, I still wouldn't have one. I'm still interested in finding out what it can do, as I haven't done anything besides some kitchen duty. I have kitchen cutlery that I really love, though, so the 5 hasn't been handled much and won't be until my back heals up and we're out of the deep freeze; I'm planning on it being my camp/fishing knife. I trust my 9, 2 and 16 (and BOB, truth be told) for woods tools, and now I have a 12; to I'm still trying to see how the 5 is going to fit in there. Luckily for me, I have one experiment with, with no obligation to love it if I don't. It occurs to me now that I could do a passaround for the "un-fived" out there. I'd probably start with the un-fived in the warmer climes first. OK 'heads, expect a thread coming up soon. Gonna have to figure out the ground rules and fluff her up a little first. If anybody's interested or done one of these before, please shoot me an email (preferably) or a PM.

This forum is known for snarking the "members" it's alright you get pretty used to it. That's the problem with a couple hundred people all on one website at one time. Things get goofy.

This made my head hurt. And I haven't been drinking! And only had one beer last night.

To be fair, I wrote it and it made MY head hurt too! I'm not even really sure what I said.

Yes. Yes it is! Or a prime rib roast into slices.

And now, you're on my list! That... jeez! You need a couple horseradish quenelles though.

I don't think you would be disappointed. We used ours almost every day for just over two weeks. Christine and I were very impressed. It's now been permanently added to our climbing/camping kitchen kit. Great slicer. Am I sounding like a fan?

I didn't know you had a list!

It was crusted with a mixture of prepared horseradish, kosher salt, garlic, rosemary, and olive oil while it roasted. The crust comes off before slicing, because it mostly tastes like salt, but it does give great flavor as the meat roasts for 2 hours.

Wish I had some prime rib for breakfast

A few days ago there were six slices left when I went to bed. My son (19 next week and visiting from college) and one of his friends apparently hit the fridge for a late night snack and there was a slice and half left the next morning. I enjoy the kids visiting, but the grocery bill goes way up!
