I'll tell ya, most of the stuff I've wanted to get over the years, I've gotten. There are still a few things I would like to get, but will live iffin I don't get them. A Go-Lite Shangri La 5, and a TiGoat stove.

I think this is a Shangri La 3 , but gives you the idea:

EDIT: Actually, it is the 5.

DO you mean a steel rod like a butchers steel? Or something else?

If you're asking me, yes. I have the traditional butcher's steel that came with the kitchen set, and the two DMT sharpeners on the way are like traditional steels but with diamonds impregnated on the surface for additional honing ability.

I meant JT I didnt know if there was some other kind of steel I didnt know about

Yup. I have the one from the Chicago Cutlery set my parents got in the late 70's but it's pretty banged up. I don't want a diamond one, just a traditional one. I suppose I could make one out of Elmax or CPM-154... hmm...

Incidentally CC takes a lot of grief now, but the knives I have left from that set are actually pretty decent. I don't know what grade of steel they were using back then but it takes a very good edge and holds it pretty well.

I have a Nicholson that I rehandled and I got a Huge one at a garage sale last year

Forgot that I have one of those also. I've had to epoxy the rod back into the handle a couple of times. I have gotten rid of most of the knives, with the exception of the steak knife set. The steak knives at least hold up wall and sharpen nicely, and they are not serrated.....not a fan of serrated steak knives.
