In unrelated news.

I built this Batman Tumbler for my son, using nothing but spare parts....
So.... While out and about today we stopped by a mall so the little lady could look for something or another. Regardless, I FOUND A LEGO STORE! These were my prizes and they were a lot cheaper than I've ever seem them for online.

Nice score Jerry.

Here is my 1 lego "guy" with a few of my beads.

This lego guy was given to me as part of a gift by a friend on another forum, its the only reason my son doesnt have this one along with his others LMAO

Funny thing is, there was also a ninja turtle as part of the same gift box LMAO

Here ya go:

Thanks man. I like using the GIMP program, and I can accomplish a lot of thigs on it, but not everything. That's the prob with me making money from it. I can come up with some stuff, but if someone wanted me to come up with certain stuff, I would be clueless. BTW, that knife mod is bad ass. One of my fav's.
My guess - and this comes from my experience being an artist at a t-shirt place, and I'm not really an "artist" in most senses of the word - is that a portfolio of the stuff you can do would be more than enough to make money at it. You obviously have a great deal of facility with the software, and while I've no doubt there are things you don't know how to do yet, I'd wager you could figure them out. I think that there are very few people who can conceptualize things in that way, which is why I was able to be a t-shirt artist - people just had to choose from whatever designs I had available. Whatever they brought in as a concept, I was always able to make look nicer, because if they're having you do the artwork, they're not an artist. Sometimes you just gotta "fake it 'til you make it". Can't hurt to put your services out there and see who wants 'em...and maybe get paid for stuff you're already doing.
BTW, I offer this as encouragement; when I went to apply for the t-shirt job they had advertised for a person to run their stat camera, and I knew a little bit about that since my dad was in the printing business. When I went in, they asked me to bring a portfolio, and I freaked....I had some random artwork I'd done for myself and a few things I'd done in the ONE college art class I'd taken....but I put it in a binder (of sorts) and went to the interview, kind of embarrassed about my "portfolio" and wondering why they wanted to see it. Turns out, they were looking for an artist, not an "artiste" because there were other things that went with the job - like cleaning screens and some other "dirty" work - and they didn't want some prima donna who only wanted to "create". And so I became that artist, and was very lucky to learn on the job. I think you could do this Dubz; don't sell yourself short by what you think you can't do - you've got some skills, and I've no doubt more you haven't discovered.

Nice score Jerry...
Thanks! I couldn't decide when I was there, so I opted for my favorite turtle and one of my favorite starwars characters. Now which one to toss on my keys first.... hmm....
Oh, and in think it's a little sad that my impulse buy of the day was at the Lego store and not REI.

Haha. Yours is a badass looking little dude.

James you have a gift bro.

I got the S35VN necker back today. Its the best cutting neck knife i own now, Hell It's sharper now than when i first got it even.

I never been so happy i screwed something up LMAO

When i first pulled it out the sheath and slid the blade across my arm my first thought was this cuts like a Ban Tang edge.

It cleanly shaves very smooth, and slices paper with complete ease. Im super impressed bro.

Thanks again man, you put one hell of an edge on this thing!!!

My other neckers will be neglected for a while now LMAO

poidh!

I'm thinking you were able to split that cutoff so easily because you hit the grain just right....I've got some really hard maple I split (and have some more to do) that every now and then, when I hit a piece right, the axe just hits the chopping block, almost like the wood split itself. I bet if you hit it cross-grain, something different would have happened.

Indeed, I'm aware of that but it amazed me nonetheless. It was like *poof*, no effort whatsoever. I can relate to the splitting logs-situation as well. Usually I tend to put quite a bit of force in my swing/chop, because I notice that most logs need it. From time to time you get one of those through which the axe/splitting maul just flies right through. I find that an uncomfortably feeling, always. As if your energy suddenly went nowhere. Can't really explain it, but it feels weird.

Awesome, I'm glad you like it :)

catching up here, but I want to throw in a few comments before I forget:

1) jimping. Yeah, I loved it, did it, changed my mind. It has to be halfway up the blade to work for me, but like JT said: I don't need blister-making features either. Also, a nicely crowned spine is a tactile thing of beauty.

2) also agreed with JT on the $100 price point. These days the only knives I can sell below $100 are my 'dashi, and as y'all know I'm barely part-time. Doing them all (nearly) the same helps enormously, as does leaving out all the shiny hand-finishing. Indeed, I can actually do pretty well revenue-wise doing only 'dashi if I batch them (like this last set), but going to a factory model while working by hand would burn me out really fast while my bigger stuff languished in drawers.

here's the last knife I jimped. I like where it is, but probably won't do it again. they just look like stress risers to me:

This isnt a review of the knife, simply showing the edge is awesome.

My first video :D

I love a sharp knife.
Not a bad little video there WW.
Nice to see a Beckerhead vid that doesn't feature a Schrade or Cold Steel. :D

Thanks man, never did a video before, and didnt really plan for this one or think it out, kind of just grabbed what ever was in front of me LOL

But its hard to show a knife is sharp in a picture. I have seen some great looking polished edges that just slide over what ever your trying to cut.

Yeah, I didn't really plan anything out when I made those Machax vids.
I had planned on doing review/testing/performance vids with Beckers, but it's just hard to find the time.
Plus I hate the way my voice sounds on video. Lol
You got a little Sam Elliot going on. So that's cool. :D
Make some more videos!
Maybe I'll try and get a few done too.
