I know i wasnt going to drink but...

If I had a dollar for every time I said that...

I've seen demonstrations of fragmenting 5.56mm penetrating fewer walls than 00 buck.

I've seen 'em, too. I don't pull this kinda stuff out of my ear. Ask anyone who knows me, I'm a complete PITA about doing due diligence and research.

Which is part of the reason why I choose neither 5.56mm/.223 nor 00 buck for my particular situation. I don't need either one, and in fact they're both completely wrong for me, my family and my house/hood.

I'm sorry if that offends anyone, but sheesh,,, relax, guys.

Who's offended? I never said you should switch or that you (or anyone else) were doing it wrong. I was responding you your comment
You don't need an assault rifle with a 30-round mag for that.
And subsequent rebuttals. The above quote originally gave me the impression that you didn't believe carbines were even a viable option in general.

Now maybe I misspoke when I said you can't have too much gun (a barret .50 would be way too much) but I was meaning was that you can't have too much capacity. I was trying making the point that any quality carbine with detachable mags can be a very good option and then used the AR15 in 5.56 as an example because it's the most common. I probably focused too much on the AR specifically, particularly in 5.56 and didn't really at least addressing alternatives. I'm not expecting to change anyone's mind really, I'm just trying to provide an alternate perspective for those who are reading the posts and haven't decided yet. Give them something to chew on and to use as a jumping off point.

Two more options for home defense if you do not mind paying the few bucks for some new gear..... a smaller pistol something like .25 caliber but not a compact. It needs the body weight to reduce the recoil since it will be used for home defense by somebody with less hand strength. My next recommendation would be a short barrel pistol caliber carbine. My wife can easily shoulder my CX4 Storm, red dot for easy targeting and a strobe for distraction. Paired with any personal defense round and you have a stable close quarters personal defense rifle.

Firearm solutions are like knives and women. Everybody has different taste and knows exactly what they like and what works for them ;) the more comfortable you are with the gear you use the better you will use it.

So I was using the gym here at work. Get out of the shower and realize I forgot to pack fresh socks and underwear...

Just play it off like you meant to.... It's the only option at this point.

Well no one else was around and luckily there isn't a strong putrid smell emanating from my nasty crotch and boots. So I'll just keep it under my hat for now. Still, the feeling of pulling on dirty socks and underwear is not a pleasant one.

in looking up there, i see only one person talking about infrastructure for home defense, before going all commando...

seems a lot of people skip on the locks and such, alarms and triggers, and go straight for the 12 gauge ;)

which is fine and all, but i don't want to have to be shooting people. so, i've got some stout locks, and the bedroom door is locked at night.

yawn, which one of you safety nancies is going "but but but they can kick a door down"... right. so, by the time they kicked in the heavy front door, or broken one of the TINY little windows on the first floor, or somehow managed to get up to the second floor and gone through tinier windows... and didn't get all cutup... they still set off the alarm. yeah, the house came with an alarm system. i can deal. now, if someone can still manage to get to my bedroom door, or otherwise into the bedroom (hey, helicopters, roof), without waking me up, well, then i guess i deserved it ;)

i fixed a friend's apt one year by the simple expedient of going around checking the physical security. we made holes in the window frames so that you could put a pin in, and the window would not rise. also fixed the windows where the TOP was not secured. could easily have been opened from outside. two window locks didn't work at all. the basement door was a sorry excuse for keeping out a cat - so it got a cross bar and a sturdy lock, let alone a guy who now can just walk upstairs. basement windows got a little work. the only troubling thing was the fire-escape, so that window got a set of screamers as well. not a nice neighborhood, but she never got broken into - even while not at home - but her neighbors did... having a gun at home for her was not likely or practical - illegal to leave unsecured, even in theory while home, cannot legally carry, and a gun in the safe in useless, except to the robber ;) she had dogs, but that didn't stop other people from getting broken into.

Got Lucky checked out at the vet this afternoon. The good news is it isn't a hernia, bad is that its a tumor. He took a sample from it and we will know Monday what type it is. He seemed fairly sure that it isn't cancer, but won't be sure until Monday. We are gonna keep our fingers crossed until we hear back.

Hoping for the best for the pup.. My old dog Smokie got a tumor like that, but she had a heart issue that didn't allow them to do the surgery.. Hoping everything works out for you all.

My cousin lives across the street from me and wandered over to bs while I was grilling tonight. He told me that one of our neighbors had someone break in his place a few nights ago while he was sleeping. I guess he woke up after hearing a noise by his bed and reached down and there was a guy crawling beside it. The guy took off right away and he called 911, but they never found him. Now I'm worried about keeping my gf safe while I'm gone on the nights I work. There is always a loaded 38 locked up close to the bed, but I'm wanting something she will be more inclined to use and easier to get to. Anyone have suggestions for pepper spray or anything else? She was thinking taser, but I'd rather not have her her that close if something does happen.

I have a Taurus Judge loaded with four rounds of .410 and the fifth slot has a hollow point .45 round for home defense.. I am of Mr. Terrio's opinion, I don't want to shoot through all of the walls.. Also have a 5 cell maglite ready for knocking heads.. but I have to admit..

I will turn on a strobe light, grab my Machax or DBH and M-18 and become a whirling dervish of fat guy insanity if someone breaks into my place.

^^^This sounds like nothing but WIN :D
