Snark it, Snark it Good

This is kind of aggravating. I got a call from Enterprise that my rental was due back today because THEY got a note from my insurance company that my vehicle was completed. I however haven't heard word one about Angel. I tried calling my claims representative and didn't get anyone on the phone. Left a voicemail (over an hour ago). Called the senior adjuster (right after getting off the phone with the claim rep) and I haven't heard anything from them either.

Up till now, dealing with the insurance company has been great, they've been great about helping. However today it's kind of pissing me off that I was told from the rental car company that my car is done and I can't get anyone on the phone from the insurance company.

That sucks man, hopefully they will get back to you soon.. Did they total your car? or are they repairing it? frame and tranny damage, doesn't seem like enough time yet to fix that.,..

Can't we all just pick up some .357 rat shot and get along?

a regular at the range I used to go to had some round-ball duplex loads in .45Colt cases over a modest charge. Those were hilarious out of his Blackhawk. Good times.

They are saying it was just coincidence that the transmission chose THAT exact moment to mess up. It isn't connected to hitting the pothole because they lifted it and looked and there was no damage to the outside of the transmission casing to indicate it was damaged.

YEAHHHHHHHH... Fuck that place! It isn't possible at all that the drive wheels are connected to the transmission. Nope that just is a coincidence! Just a coincidence!

/ANGER!!! actually... no, NOT /Anger, Hulking out over here!

Firearm solutions are like knives and women. Everybody has different taste and knows exactly what they like and what works for them ;) the more comfortable you are with the gear you use the better you will use it.

Well said.

Now then, .45 vs. 9mm.... :D

there's no shame in an unfurnished basement.
Just chafing.

Wear pants that fit and it's simply not an issue.

Also have a 5 cell maglite ready for knocking heads...

Me too. It lives right next to the front door. I don't know how much good it would do against a burglar or pack of zombies, but... Salesmen and religious nuts and other bothersome characters tend to cut their spiel short real quick when you answer the door with that in hand... at high noon :p

Oh, they mean that the sudden inertia from the impact racking all the components together couldn't POSSIBLY have done any damage if the outside case wasn't damaged? ha ha. they're fired.

Cbear, I knew you was in trouble as soon as you said the insurance company was great to work with. You have to understand adjusters are there to screw you out of the claim. Its there job (no matter how nice they can act to you) to find a way that there company can get out of the bill. You'll probably have to take it to court. Sorry to any insurance adjusters out there, but in my experience, Id rather knock one out as to deal with one.

My dad buys beaters to drive to work. Last year, he hit a deer and the insurance company gave him $800 more than he paid for it a couple years before. He bought it back for the price of scrap and is still driving it today.:D

Best of luck Jared. I have never had to file a claim, so I can only imagine what you are going through.

Took the kids out on the town today and went to the local flea market. Last week I spotted a really neat 8" Case Butcher knife and I thought, well if its still there I might as well. Well as luck would have it, it was still there and the lady gave it too me for $8.00... I do not think this thing had EVER been used. Was still in the paper sleeve from the factory. You hardly ever find stuff like this in this good of condition. Seriously, no scratches, dents, dings, chips, or otherwise. It was barely even dirty. Its really a neat little knife that is going to live the rest of its life in my kitchen. Found some online for around to over $50.00 so I think I came out pretty good. Here is a pic I found online of one. My camera is still broken so this will have to do until later. Pretty neat, or at least I think so ;)

Sorry CBear.. that sucks and opens a whole other can of worms... Hopefully you can escalate it through the insurance company and get some satisfaction... I agree with you Todd, years ago my hatchback got destroyed by some kids with a hammer and crowbar trying to get my stereo system out of the car. The adjuster, nice guy, came to my work to take my statement... we talked for a while and he was pretty cool guy, we finished my statement and the topic went to what high school we had graduated from and he was familiar with the neighborhood I lived in at the time.. Anyway, during the convo I said something like "Yeah, this is the 8th time in 10 years that my house or car has been broken into"
About a week later I get a note from my insurance saying they were dropping me. The asshole had put that this was my 8th claim and they labeled me as high risk and dropped me.. I told them that it was over a 10 year period and I had only been a customer of theirs for 7 months.. I made them reinstate me before I called to quit.
One day I will learn to keep my mouth shut...

It is probably the lack of cloths that cuts their spiel short...

For anybody that is going to Blade and have contacted me about VIP passes, they should be on the way to my house in the next 2-4 business days!

Gus, you and Triggs still going to Ethans next month? if so I'll give you yours there.

Have a good weekend everyone. See yall again Sunday evening.

I expect a new snark by then, So someone should go in on page one for me :D

You're so right. Insurance nitwits rank right up there with bankers and car salesmen in my book... as you said, their whole job is to reach into your wallet.

That too! Whatever works, man... I'm a firm believer in catching the enemy off-guard to gain every possible advantage :D

Yay! Thanks man. Just let me know what I owe ya  Save a stamp, just bring 'em to Ethan's and I'll bring cash.

in looking up there, i see only one person talking about infrastructure for home defense, before going all commando...

seems a lot of people skip on the locks and such, alarms and triggers, and go straight for the 12 gauge ;)

which is fine and all, but i don't want to have to be shooting people. so, i've got some stout locks, and the bedroom door is locked at night.

yawn, which one of you safety nancies is going "but but but they can kick a door down"... right. so, by the time they kicked in the heavy front door, or broken one of the TINY little windows on the first floor, or somehow managed to get up to the second floor and gone through tinier windows... and didn't get all cutup... they still set off the alarm. yeah, the house came with an alarm system. i can deal. now, if someone can still manage to get to my bedroom door, or otherwise into the bedroom (hey, helicopters, roof), without waking me up, well, then i guess i deserved it ;)

i fixed a friend's apt one year by the simple expedient of going around checking the physical security. we made holes in the window frames so that you could put a pin in, and the window would not rise. also fixed the windows where the TOP was not secured. could easily have been opened from outside. two window locks didn't work at all. the basement door was a sorry excuse for keeping out a cat - so it got a cross bar and a sturdy lock, let alone a guy who now can just walk upstairs. basement windows got a little work. the only troubling thing was the fire-escape, so that window got a set of screamers as well. not a nice neighborhood, but she never got broken into - even while not at home - but her neighbors did... having a gun at home for her was not likely or practical - illegal to leave unsecured, even in theory while home, cannot legally carry, and a gun in the safe in useless, except to the robber ;) she had dogs, but that didn't stop other people from getting broken into.
I think Mr. Terrio and Bladite, perhaps without knowing it, have applied the basic System Engineering "V" (letter "v", not Roman numeral) to analyze and procure their home security solutions.

In a nutshell, you start at the top left of the "V" by determining what your "operational requirements" are. In this case, a secure home. After that, you develop potential solutions to satisfy these requirements. It need not always be a material solution or a single material solution, but could be changes in procedure or multiple material solutions (dogs, alarms, lights, and/or guns). If a material solution(s) is called for, then technical specifications are developed for the item(s) that are required. This devolution of requirements is the bottom of the "V". Once the item(s) are procured (manufactured, purchased, etc), then they should be tested against the technical specification ("Was it built right?). This is where we go back up the right leg of the "V." If it meets the technical spec, then it should be tested against the operational requirement ("Did we build the right thing?"). This process if both iterative and recursive, and eventually you are able to answer "Yes, we did build the right thing." Then, and only then, you can state that your operational requirement is met.

Too many times, folks skip strait to the solution without really examining what the real requirement is and consider alternatives other than the obvious that might meet the requirement better and for less money. Kudos to JT and Bladite for "getting it!" ...if they are still awake after reading this.
