Becker BK2
I was just reading this thread on Bladeforum ...
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=793530
where some guy is calling it severe abuse to throw a Becker BK2 into a tree. Seems a BK2 broke under the circumstances. I was considering adding this knife to my collection. I bought the stuff about the Cro-V 1095 steel blade being 30% stronger than the steel in the ESEE 5, that is, until some guy posted a destruction test vid where he hammered a BK2 into the ESEE blade to blade while the ESEE was in a vise. It was shocking how the BK2 blade fractured while the ESEE had a minor chip but nothing like the Becker. He flipped the two with the BK2 in the vise and the ESEE on top and again, the BK2 gave up a big chunk of the blade.
Now it would seem to me after that, the BK2 and its "indestructible" blade metallurgy is pure marketing hype, its in the vid. Yet I don't know how these guys keep going on about it and actually saying that throwing a knife is somehow different from batoning it and creates micro fractures in the steel. If throwing a knife into wood is any different from bashing it into a log with a 2x4 then I'll kiss Paris Hilton during her next outbreak. Maybe Noss should D-test the BK2 and the ESEE 5 to shut these dudes up.
