Are you circumcised? How about you son?

There are about the same amount of reasons, health vs appearance, to circumcision as ear cropping in certain dog breeds.

Lots of breeds were created by man. Look at wolves and the ancient dog breeds, notice their ears.

There are many many sites online that fully explain cropping and the reasons it is acceptable.. But just like circumcision it comes down to preference of the parents.

I got my son circumcised. Not for religious purposes... More so he doesn't feel different and its easier to keep clean and prevent infections... I wouldn't judge a person for cropping his dogs ears for that same reason... Just like i wouldn't judge a parent for not circumcising their son because they feel it's more natural or whatever other reason they have...

This reminds me of a story....actually two different stories... (but at my age, everything reminds me of a story)

I worked with a guy at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, who was having to get his "snipped" as an adult. He was in his late 50's at the time I believe and the doctor wanted it done for cleanliness and health reasons. He said his dad didn't have it done when he was born (in the 1930's) because the doctor wanted to charge an extra $1.50 for that service.... It was an economic choice in his case. Afterwards, he said he'd have much rather had it done as a baby before when he was oblivious to it all.

Second story... My eldest step-daughter is what we call "progressive" and goes on periodic FaceBook binges....anti-vaxing, election blah blah, and, every six months or so, anti-circumcision. A few of us were talking at work about how irritating FaceBook can be sometimes. I mentioned her "crusades" and one of our young interns (a former Navy aviation electrician) asked if she has any sons. I told him no, two daughters. He said "You should tell her to be quiet about circumcision since 'she's got no skin in the game'." Hahahahahahaha!

Last day to register to vote in the great Lone Star State - not sure about your neck of the woods. If you haven't, do.

I don't have a source, but I was under the impression cleanliness was more a matter of the dude washing his junk rather than whether or not he's been snipped.

I suspect in an era of scant soap and water, as well as underdeveloped cultural norms of cleanliness it may have made sense. These days I think it's a holdover that falls in the category of male genital mutilation. Fortunately it seems to be less destructive than FGM still practiced in cultures of explicit systemic female repression. Certainly doing it after the kid can develop long-term memories seems utterly insane to me.

At risk of TMI, but he mumbled something about "old and raggedy"...

Lost that address too, not sure if there still were many visitors.
Been visiting some nice quarries and temporary exposures. Especially the month of May was pretty successful. Found some good stuff back then. Since then I've been out and about, but not with much success. Finds were few and far in between. Here are some good ones from May

What have you been up to, and how are you doin'?

Awesome finds.
Been doing rope rescue stuff in the North Carolina mountains.

Had a nice long weekend, and was able to get about 15 miles of hiking in over the last few days in 3 different areas. Perfect weather and an awesome weekend. My mind needed that.

I hope everyone else is doing well.

Got in a bike ride. There may have been some wheezing after the first big hill.

I rode yesterday and there was DEFINITELY some wheezing - but it sure was a grand day to be out enjoying the Granite State foliage season....

.....while trying not to do the "old man spin". Thank gawd for compact cranksets. My normal rides are pretty flat - this one, not so much.

life may be good.
there's a new brewery opening Friday -- anyone who shows up dressed like a Viking gets a free beer.

I took the bike in to work this evening. Different kinda bike. A lot louder. Still, been too long with the weather we've been having lately.
