Nothin like a good hot shower. Buy the way Dubz, your tent kicked ass at the gathering this weekend. Just what I was after.:thumbup:

Todd, did you get into the dr?

Nvm....didn't catch that part about the new meds under the photo.......glad its taken care of

Never forget the value of learning to file and draw-file with accuracy... with and without jigs/guides. It's a skill that comes in handy anyway, plus it builds character. :p
...and muscles.

I'm filing right now. Heat treated steel....my tennis elbow is screaming. And I haven't played tennis in, well, ever, really.

As for edges, w/d sandpaper and a piece of plate glass are cheap and very effective.

A little progress report for you, JT - jimping!

This would sure beat the gravity flow solar shower we're using now. Glad the tent is workin' out for ya brother. Still wanting to see a photo of it set up. ;)

Yeah man, the wifey called and told him that I had swollen eyes and may have experienced sleep walking. She also told him I was a little irritable  go figure. Anyway, he thought it was all side effects from the meds I was on for the pneumonia. So he changed them and I felt like a million bucks today........ my doctor has known me all of my life. He told me to tell my wife he could fix the eyes and the sleepwalking. But me being a asshole has pretty much set in permanently. Lol. :D

O.k. slow down WW. Nothing to get excited about. I understand the whole bettering the family thing but that has nothing to do with this conversation. You made it sound in the post that you were selling the knife to fund "something" that had to do with making knives. And since I offered to heat treat your first effort knives FOR FREE, I sure as hell dont know why you need to sell the knife for ht.
Furthermore, you ask like its unheard of. "You made 40 knives before you had a grinder" YOU BET YOUR ASS I DID. Thats because (much like you) I loved it and was fascinated by it. I have tools and skill beyond most. MAYBE. But I sure as hell didnt get ANY of those overnight. I worked hard, saved my money and worked with what I had. As my skill progressed, I bought tools. I just turned 40 years old. Most people between your age and mine buy motorcycles, cool cars, swimming pools for there families, I bought lathes, mills, grinders, welders. My whole family has lived and breathed this shit with me by my side for the last 16 years. 16 YEARS. Not 16 weeks.

Just for the record. A FINISHED knife means just that. A "finished" knife up to heat treat, is still just a piece of metal.

Aaaand the grinder I use to put the final edge on all of my knives is the old 1in. version of the grinder you got. It was the very first grinder I ever got back in 1999. It runs just as fast. Practice practice practice. My point really to all of this. But do what you want. Just be a shame to see you burn out so soon.

Hey bud i think this is a miscommunication... I dont mean it like its unheard of, just thought that was awesome. Sorry im not good at expressing myself by typing. I should of put one of these  after that.

And i am selling the knife to fund stuff for knife making... Sorta kinda..... What im saying is i cant just wait and save the money up, im paying 3 times the amount due on my land now to pay it off early so all my extra money is going to that.

Ah screw it, I designed a mini hawk multi-tool. Im calling it the Hex Hawk. It will have hex cutouts to be used on bolts. And a handle cutout to make it lighter. I cant cut these shapes with a hacksaw and files and it be functional so a waterjet comes into play. It could be worn as a necklace or used as a keychain. The design has already been checked and approved by the waterjet people and even complimented. And i have family friends loving the design as well, in fact they are willing to buy enough for me to make a profit and cover all the fees associated with making them and HT them, Plus ill still have a handful left over. But i wont take money upfront even though 1 of them offered. So thats the main thing the money is for. The rest will go to stones and belts. But i really need the money for CAD, waterjet fees, and HT.

Im passionate about this design and want to see it happen more than i want a knife hanging on the wall.

See its knife related in a way LOL.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I didnt mean anything i said negatively.

No biggie, just thought maybe there was something I missed. Just readin your words. Anyway, send me your two 01 projects and I'll take care of the ht.

Jim Nowka had that shower at GLIB and several of us used it. The support broke after a couple of uses and we had to "bushcraft" a repair. The tank/pump/nozzle part was amazing and I'm going to buy that assembly only. I'm going to use a fish fryer for the support and burner. Much sturdier and quicker hot water. Can be used with a 20lb propane tank too.

Yer gonna hafta go orange, ya know. There are people besides your friends and family that might want one of those.

Granite.... that BK7 is freakin coooooooool.

Thanks! Took away the "utility" part and this is what's left....although I did incorporate a bottle opener. So I guess it has a little utility.

Still trying to figure out the swedge and how to blend it and introduce a little more tactical/fighter to it. So I'm filing and sanding instead (and enjoying an Out of Your Gourd Pumpkin Porter) hoping that lightning will strike. Couldn't figure it out on paper, which is what I usually do. Plus I'm happy so far with how it's turning out, and I don't want to f it up with my limited skillset.

Really appreciate that man, and sorry again for any misunderstanding. I was trying to keep the idea hush hush so it was kind of misleading. Thats my fault.

I do wish people could hear my voice over reading what i write though. People think im an asshole all the time, well i am sometimes, but people think i mean things a different way than i say them all the time over the computer. Not just here on BF either. I have to call people up all the time after a few emails just so they hear the expression in my voice and understand me better LOL

Again thank you for offering to help on HT'ing these, i have to finish the 2nd one up but barring any unforeseen circumstances it will be done by the end of the week and i could ship come Monday. Ill be embarrassed that you'll be seeing them up close though LOL

Good to know. I have a turkey fryer, guess that base would work just as well.

...and muscles.

Not really... it's a classic example of over-training. Take your time and don't try to do it all at once; that stuff is hard on the bendy parts. Other than quick post-HT clean-ups and sharpening, I flat refuse to file or hand-sand on hardened steel anymore... it hurts too much.

A little progress report for you, JT - jimping! ... I knew you'd like it ;).

:D

Man anyone here tried to use CAD?? Im sure some have. I downloaded this free version that has a tutorial when you start it.... I about punched my computer, i couldn't make it through the tutorial LMAO That crap is CRAZY!!

Go to the Google homepage, click on "more" (or something like that) and download SketchUp. Free and pretty easy to use. Don't know if the drawings output would work for what you wanna do, but there's a good chance it might.

Thanks Mike, downloading it now and will play around with it tonight!!

Also that BK7 is badass. I can wait to see what you do from scratch!!! DO IT :D

WW -- check the exchange in the makers gear & supplies section Talfuchre has a pile of O1 steel for cheap.
great stuff for practicing grinds and making gifts. (it's all 3/32 & 1/8" thick stock, so not chopper material, but awesome for kitchen, hunting, and GP camp knives.)

Todd beat me to the punch LMAO :D

Thanks for the heads up though!
