That's gonna look sick when you get done with it gsom. You should consider making knives. You do good work.

Time for bed. Couple more WIP pics:

Lookin' really nice.

Man anyone here tried to use CAD?? Im sure some have. I downloaded this free version that has a tutorial when you start it.... I about punched my computer, i couldn't make it through the tutorial LMAO That crap is CRAZY!!

Not since the early 90's when it came on something like 10 2.5" floppies. I'm betting any skills I used to have are no longer relevant at all.

Heck with it, I ordered it.

Ha! It does look pretty sweet.

I'm not sure who you're workign with ww but... there are plenty of WJ companies that do the programming for you and have very reasonable pricing. Two of them are dealer members here and one of those also happens to sell steel, saving money and time on shipping... just sayin'.

(H2Oknife and Aldo Bruno/NJSB)

 Pete Bruno , Aldo's son is the one im working with. He handles the waterjetting over at NJSB.

I like the fact i can buy the steel i want from a place i have dealt with before and only have to pay shipping 1 time after everything is complete. And he is in fact going to do the CAD work for me as well. There is a fee for it but its not ridiculous. I heard good things about his service as well. I SUCK at drawing. No lie my 8 year old can draw better than me LMAO and the drawings i sent them were not very good, but i explained everything in detail and gave precise measurements of everything and he said it would be no problem to use what i gave him and turn it into a CAD file and cut them out.

I tried CAD just for the hell of it since there was a free program. But you have to be some kind of computer genius to do that stuff LOL

Morning snark!

Caught up on reading... and going to be late for work. Hah!

snark ya later!

You may still get the general concept though. But yea im sure things are way different.

Thats the thing about all this computer stuff, you have to stay up to date with it and use it at least semi-often or you get lost in all the advancements. 10 years ago i was troubleshooting missile systems and radars down to circuit board levels, reading fault codes on the screen and using schematics to find and fix the faults. I was fusion splicing fiber optics, and using the older multimeters TDRs OTDRs, oscilloscopes etc. Our training after boot camp was over a year long before we even went to our first unit and by the time we got there they we already doing things a little different than what we learned in school. I talked to one of the guys i went through training with not long ago and at this point he had became an instructor at the school and was telling me how everything we learned besides reading the schematics was nearly obsolete. Same missile systems, but different software, new advance test equipment. No way i could keep up these days.... Hell i could barely, not really keep up then honestly.

There were 5 guys in my class, i was the only one to have no college before joining. I barely made it, in fact i only made it into the program by 1 point on the test. I was always pretty decent at taking tests but wasnt the most educated or book smart, i just new how to find answers and new how to study what i considered the most important stuff. But i almost got booted from the class due to my test scores LMAO. That crap was crazy hard for me. I was lost when the instructors were talking and had to spend hours going over schematics and reading how things worked every day after class and before PT, between meals, late at night when other slept etc. If it wasnt for others telling me the entire time id never make it and i didnt belong i would of asked to be reclassified to a different MOS, but i took there "threats" as a challenge and did make it through by the skin of my teeth.

Damn im all off topic LMAO!!! Back to your regularly scheduled snarking.

A five hour gap in the middle of the day?

Everyone is working too hard!

Yea... Busy day.

Im tired. Did a bunch of filing, cut some wood for handles with the hack saw. Got the kids from school and just finished helping my 5 year old with his homework.

Are you filing until your new steel comes in or have you given up on the grinder and want to make someone an excellent deal on it????? :)

LMAO!!

Im not giving up on the grinder at all bud sorry. I started with just enough steel to make 2 knives, i wanted to do one with the grinder and 1 with files. Basically to just have a little idea whats involved with each. The one with files is coming out better but thats because mistakes come a lot slower with a file compared to the grinder. But i finished the bevels on the small knife in just a couple hours the same day i started it, the bevels on the knife im using files for has taken a few days... But thats also because once i get tired i stop and move on to something else and only do it when i have extra time that its quiet.

But at the same time i did the smaller ones profile with just files, a hacksaw and drills and that took most of a day filing the shape, i mean most of 24 hours as i didnt sleep a wink.... BUT i profiled out the larger on with the grinder in no time. The grinder really does make profiling things out much easier. I have no problems shaping the knife with the grinder. Its the bevels that give me a hard time.

But once the steel comes ill most likely be using almost all of it to just practice my grinding and get a better feel for it. I need to learn at what speed to take the knife across the belt and at what angle so i can learn to get decent bevels.

Ill also still use the file jig for a small section, so i can still do something late at night when everyone is sleeping. Ill be making the wife a kitchen knife, and want it to come out looking half decent so ill most likely be filing that one. I want to have an understanding and learn better technique with both grinding and hand tools.

I dont give up easily on anything if i like it. The grinder would have to blow up or something for me to just stop using it LOL
