Martins are fine instruments. Fine instruments indeed. Was at a shop once that had one from way back, was going for a hair over $30,000. Little out of my price range, but man, that thing sounded like a dream.

A hobby of mine is to whittle simple flutes. I do it a lot every spring. It was also great fun to do when I was in the army and was standing guard or something equally boring.
This year however I've been too busy with my studies and other stuff to spend time in the forest. So today I finally got to make this year’s first flute :D
It made a nice and smooth sound.

Didn’t use a Becker, but I hope that’s ok :p

the weight and balance between the gen1 and gen2 are totally different (obviously) and Im still not sure which I prefer. The gen2 is more nimble, but I kinda like the balance of the gen1.

I'm sure the gen1 sheath dulls like a mofo, but I actually prefer the design/function of it over the gen2 sheath...at least the dangler works unsnapped.

Thanks Viper, that was incredibly quick shipping, but then, we dont live very far apart.

Stripping Party today! Ogre's House....BYOB&B (Bring Your Own Booze & Beckers)

Not today trade. Got my eye on a Gibson semi hollow electric. Possibly a line6 combo too. They have a sweet sale going on at my local music store.

Please: oh, god please don't infect me with buylotasguitars-itis. My budget simply doesn't have the constitution!

No kidding, I dont even play and yet I love guitars...I have to prevent myself from going in music stores, or I would own a few. I'm a Gibson man, my entire family on my Mom's side are musical, our family reunions have more instruments then people.....kinda like the ratio of knives to people at the Gathering.

My Dad always played Gibsons, had a beautiful tobacco burst that plays a huge role in my childhood memories.

It's always been a goal of mine to learn, but I have severe lack of musical talent.

I have an Alvarez(?) that I've been trying to play for a few years now. I've really learned nothing.

I monkey around on two Yamahas--a classical and a steel string.
Where I live, they show you out of town if you can't at least play a few chords.

My Dad taught himself in vietnam, on some junk flattop he found. He said it's amazing what you can learn thru sheer boredom LOL
He is a pretty good player, but he can't read sheet music, he plays by ear. I think he knows every 50s-70s country song and every gospel song though.

Interesting story on his tobacco '59 es335 Gibson, he found it in BFE arkansas back in early 80s, traded a 100$ rifle for it....it was a Gibson custom shop, had a '62 thin neck added to it, some Blues player ordered it....not BB King but someone who is known to Blues fans. I dont know how it ended up in the Ozarks.....but Dad played that thing for years, and when we moved to Utah, the local music shop was owned by the lead guitarist for the Osmonds. He played Dad's once and had to have it. The offers went higher every year, until Dad finally sold it. He got a few grand cash and a couple hi-end guitars for it LOL

Dad's was just like this but the darker tobacco burst

now he has a Ventura super400 with Gibson pickups

Thrill, and to any one else it may apply to :
As a guy who went to college for music, talent can be a liability. Music is all about coming into something new with a plan, you have to break hard stuff down and iron it out detail by detail. And there's great rewards from finally getting it right.

What i'm getting at here is that talent comes from dedication, it's not a mystical gift from the gods. If you think it'll be fun, get in there and learn something!

My nephew is home from college, his old HS buddy came over, he's in the USAF, on leave...shipping back to Turkey in a few days. Damn kid didn't have a decent knife. Im gonna order another 14, he handled all my Beckers and thought the 14 was the most useful for his needs. I dont know if I'm gonna strip the orange off mine and make him a coyote sheath and tan cord-wrap handle or order him a new one and send it to his PPO. I'd like to send it with him so he'll prolly get mine and I can get a new one. Military needs to issue the 11 or 14, a general use ''everyday'' knife is more valuable then a bayonet IMO

Introducing the ''Desert Warfare'' BK14 with quick-detach HiViz lanyard...I told him if he somehow gets a chance to stab it in some taliban's arse he had to yell ''FOR BARLOW!!!'' LOL

Now I need to get me another 14, I love that knife.

Added as much stuff as I could think of, to make just about any carry method possible, since I dont know what his uniforms and gear/equipment loadout is.

two lanyards with 550 ''beads'', one subdued and one hiviz, both quick-detach if he dont want a lanyard.
''H'' 550 on sheath so it can be belt-worn either horizontal or vertical
Maxped grimlock so he can clip it to a LBE shoulder harness or packstrap
Murphy strap so if he pocket carries it he cant lose it
simple 550 lanyard if he chooses to neck carry

Of course it wont be on all at once, I figured he could change it out to match the day's requirements..or play around until he finds his perfect carry.

Greybush, I have to say I'm glad I'm not there. I'm more of a 70's to low 80's kind of guy. I'd prolly melt there.

Thrill, thats pretty nice of you to do. I'm sue he appreciates it.

I modded my new gen1 BK2 like crazy today!

LOL actually I just put grivory back on it (my BK4 now has new Jim birch lammi scales LOL) with SS hardware and made it a sheath. I really like the balance of it, prefer it to my gen2 BK2 I think. I guess my youngest nephew can use my old 2 now since he likes it so much.

I noticed the ''Kbar/BK&T'' stamp on this one is crooked and off-place from the usual location

Surprised its still wearing paint....when are you taking it to the strip club?

trust me I wanted to....but I aint got much use of my left hand and I didnt wanna get stripper/chemicals on my finger. I didnt wanna start it and have my effed up finger prevent me from finishing it or doing a good job with the sanding.

Soon as possible the black shipping wrapper will come off, I may do my 4 at same time.

today was a Get a Becker Lose a Becker day...I guess the balance is maintained LOL
