Yeah, WW, the Penske trucks from Colorado cost me nearly a grand each. Took two. On the upside, if you are a AAA member and reserve online, Penske gives a 20% discount. Or if you're military, as in our case. Might be worth doing some shopping around.

Oh, the money was out of the account. But it still put an end to Paypal use, due to paypal account balance being negative, and also affected credit score. Many people go a long time with no issues, and as long as you remember that Paypal doesn't care about you, as long as they get their money in the end, you'll be fine. Myself, I use Amazon Payments for online business. It's free to set up an account, and there are no BS fees.

Amazon payments is indeed easy. I set up an account when i bought the 2 knives from you, thats the only time i have ever used it though... I tried pushing some customers towards it in the beginning to avoid paypal... But it didnt work... Some people seem to think anything other than paypal equals a scam... Then there are the others, thinking paypal is the scam HAHA

I didnt know about the discount, thanks man i will check into that for sure. I didnt have to pay to reserve the date.. So if i can find a better deal im all over it LOL

Congrats WW!!
Nice to know that you and your family will be in a better (safer) environment soon.
I'm happy for you guys.

For $1,000 or less you could buy a trailer off craigslist. U-haul pissed me off once too when I PCS'd to Colorado. They wouldn't write a zero-balance receipt so I could get reimbursed. I can only imagine how many other government employees and military members went through the same BS.

Hey WW, a buddy of mine from HS is a cop in Florida. If you ever get busted by a Hawaiian down there ask if he knows me. Not sure if that will get the charges reduced or increased though... :D

WW - another option is to find a "decent", used trailer that'll fit all your stuff for sale in PA, use it to haul your stuff and then sell it in FL. That's what I did multiple times for Navy deployments - for example, I'd buy a used trailer in San Diego, haul my stuff to TX for storage at home for free and have my dad sell the trailer. Then, just before my ship would get back to SD, he'd buy another one and after hauling my stuff back to SD, I'd sell it.

I started doing that for my second deployment when I figured out how much it would cost to store my stuff in SD for 10 months.
 $800 ($80/mo)

Then I found out it would cost $250+ to rent a trailer 1-way (1978). I found a good-condition used one for $325. Also did it for the stuff I didn't trust movers for PCS moves - foot lockers of bayonets, swords, knives, pistols, rifles, shotguns, and ammo.

Edit - I see where bighoss had the same idea while I was typing mine.:D

Pfft, then you have their address and go make a house call. Or depending how far away it is... call in a friend to make the house call for you ;) Todd can always call Murph for this :D

Something like this: (warning this video is not safe for work and has some potty mouth, do not click it if it may offend)

God bless you sir, invoking Kevin Smith's works to make a point. Me making a trip to Oregon was discussed at one point for a similar reason.

Oh trust me we have thought about a regular trailer. Uhual (one were getting anyway) has a roof, walls, and LOCKS :D

If we were going to drive straight through, and knew it wasnt going to storm on us half way... We wouldnt even need to buy a trailer. I could use one a little bigger than the u-hual for free...Thing is we have 2 kids and a dog to move... And we fully plan to be stopping at a hotel for a night, and quite possibly hitting a few "sights".. Wouldnt want our stuff poured rain on or stolen while we are sleeping, or even checking out a state park that we just so happen to see a sign for along the way..

I had pretty good luck during PCS moves personally, i moved around quite a bit due to my "job". In 3 years i had been stationed in 6 different places. 7 actual moves if you count moving back to el paso after being overseas. I always packed my own stuff, someone picked it up, and delivered at the new spot... Army paid... Never had any issues. I also had to store my car and some other stuff for ~14 months while i was bouncing around Korea... I stored it in an indoor unit. I personally paid it off in advance.. Cant remember the exact price but it was surely over a grand. I got reimbursed by the army for that also. Every dollar in fact, i didnt get it till a couple months after i returned... So this is well over a year after i paid for it... And i had to turn in a bunch of paperwork and ask about it a few times... But i did get it back LOL

I don't know how big your vehicle is but this could work too

I buy all my furniture at goodwill so that I can just take it back or huck it in the dumpster whenever I move.

I'd look for a trailer too. Enclosed trailers can be had for decent prices and like ZZ said, you can sell it after the move. As long as the tires and bearings are good, there's not much that could go wrong with one. Heck I know where there is on here in town that is big enough to fit a car for $1,000. Looks like Hoss checked your areas craigslist already and I bet there are lots more around there for sale. Paying that much to just rent a trailer seems outrageous.

Knives. Damn them and their sharp beautifulness. I wish there weren't so many nice ones and that I had a less weak constitution about buying them. I know I should not look at the exchange. But, like many things I should not look at, I do. I'll have some pics up next week ;).

Hahahaha, looking forward to the pics :D

Congtrats on the paperwork hurdles, WW!
Good luck, and don't forget to keep one knife unpacked handy to open boxes. :D

almost thought that was a picture of mine, then i saw the midget juggalo? :D lol

not too many people seem to have the fubar-3, dunno why, fantastic piece of kit

If I get my way she'll be swinging that thing in no time! luv da Fubar

Is what it is. Gotta get stuff south. We closed on the house earlier today as well. Happened a couple weeks later than we originally thought but that was to save a little money by doing all the paperwork for 2 house sales at the same time. Not like it was urgent on my end. We are driving down July 17th. Plenty of time.... But until it was officially closed i had those worries in the back of my head that something would fall through... So its a breath of fresh air now that its official.

Congrats!!! that's awesome news brother!

I also look when I know I shouldn't. I take comfort in the fact that if I made a purchase that I shouldn't my wife would shoot me (literally). A great deterrent from making purchases.

 There is much we can all learn from Kevin Smith's works. The world would be a much nicer place. Its unfortunate that these situations present themselves. But in order to make things right, a road trip and a good asskicking is sometimes required. Keep rocking out with your **ck out Murph! If you ever come up this way for a mission of that sorts, just give me a call!

My only deterrent is guilt....which, though genetically bred into my family for hundreds of years, is not always powerful enough to prevent bursts of self indulgence. I will say I am considering thinning out some of the lesser used knives.....but the hoarding instinct also has a strong genetic pull....

Going to attempt to offset by trying to spend a little time each day cleaning, taking inventory, throwing/giving away or selling the mountain of crap cluttering up my life. Sometimes it feels as if I'm being buried under a pile of unending responsibility to a materialistic world that I can't also let go of. To that end, today I will be disassembling the pool pump to replace the main seal. The girls are asking me if I can start opening the pool, and I find it difficult to say no. The consequences of just leaving it are worse than the taking the time to maintain it. Who wants a swamp with a cover sitting in their backyard all summer?

that construction trailer is a killer deal - either it or the tools would be worth the asking price -- and when you're done with the move, you could turn it into a knifemaking workshop.... (or use the tools to build yourself a shop)

Since we're on the topic. My buddy that owns the fiberglass shop has 2 enclosed trailers for sale. Ones 16 foot and the other is a 20 footer I believe. Has VERY reasonable prices on them.

Except he'd have to sell the tools just to fit his stuff in there. Still, seems like the tools alone could be worth the asking price.

Man that is an AWESOME deal at 1500!! And really close to my location as well.

I agree!! I was shocked at the price.

Thanks fellas!! I cant put my excitement into words :D

Agreed. Soon as i seen it i was like DAMN. LOL

Man a 20 footer... Now that id try and turn into a work shop LOL

Id have no problems with that though, hell even if i had to give away half the tools for free the price still seems great.

So i got excited about it and was about to transfer money into an account and plan to go look at it... Then I sent the link to my father and called him up... He also thinks its a great deal... BUT... Then he says...

"If thats what your wanting to do i got a better deal, cancel the uhual reservation" And he tells me he will drive an enclosed trailer up here, help load everything up, and drive it back..... Much better than $922 or $1500 LOL

I like the free deal better HAHA.... Now if i had a bunch of extra money id still buy that trailer. I could use half the tools on that lists, and a trailer like that could come in handy... But now the uhual money can go towards other needs.

I appreciate all the info and advice fellas. Glad i mentioned the trailer price on here. I thought it was ridiculous, but thought maybe im just being a cheap bastard LOL
