  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

So was it a good lesson, or was he being kind of a jerk?

He was being a real jackass.

What kind of lesson was he trying to teach you?...the only lesson I see that he is a real jerk.

I definitely would have let the air out of his tires during the night so he could learn a little from his 'lesson'.

he definately would have been pushing/lifting his bike out of there in the morning..

you should know better then to rely on someone else

Friends are people you can rely on. He may have been your friend before but he is only an acquaintance now.

No matter what his words were, he was only entitled to half the steak. You let yourself be his victim. He is not a friend.

Is this serious? If you actually let him take the steak then, yes, you needed to learn a lesson. Wimp.

Is this in reference to me? Yes, I let him have the steak. I may not have liked the situation, but I was not going to break my word for a $12 steak or whatever, so I accepted it and spent a hungry night out.

It may not have been 'fair', but I took it like a man without complaint.

He lied. Said he wanted a small piece then changed his mind. Bait and switch. Kick him to the curb as a friend.

Yeah it is. "Taking it like a man" is different than handling the situation like a man. There are only two places a man can "take it" and neither satisfies the appetite. Not flaming you, and I won't comment further, but this is the truth. Lesson learned.

You cannot ever associate with this person again because they will forever treat you like a bitch. I know, not nice and you don't want to hear it but that's the facts.

Sorry, just speaking plain and I wish you the best.:)

It sounds like a classic power play between two people and he played you, but you let him do it. If the relationship between the two of you was on equal ground then you would have been able to call him on his BS and it not be any big deal. Yeah you kept your word, you have that. Beyond that let it go and move on because it doesn't sound like it was a true friendship to begin with.

edited to add that the post above me rings true and it's worth looking at your role in that dynamic.

shoulda given him a taste of his own medicine.

If it was a lesson he wanted, you should have taught him.......Eat the big piece of steak, slash his bike tires, and leave him with a broken knee. Come back in a week and see what he learned :D

Now this is a sad story to read...

Going out and camping with Real friends is a real fun, unlike this story.
Hope your next outing is a good one.

The correct reaction would have been to nod sagely, ponder for a moment, then respond in kind by sharing some deep wisdom of your own - "When two men squabble about steak over a campfire, the man holding the knife gets the last word" - while proceeding to eat the entire steak yourself.

;)
