So...................................

I gotta say my experience with SR101 is pretty much on par with INFI as far as performance goes.

'Kin are definitely my favorite blades ever since I jumped in the pool last year.

Right now I have 10 pieces in SR-101 to 1 in INFI but I voted INFI since if cost and availability were no issue I'd certainly take them all in INFI

I'll have some more INFI to keep my B8 company in the next few months.

INFI must not be your favorite blade steel. I can't believe that only 8 people on this forum prefer INFI(including me) to other steels according to the poll on the general forum. So if you don't like INFI the most, what do you prefer to INFI? I am very interested.

Guilty as charged. I chose M390.

I'm a huge fan of Busse and -kin. But I'm quite new to Busse and -kin, and even newbie-er to INFI. I really don't have enough experience with INFI in usage to say that it is my favorite. Primarily because most of my usage is in small blades or folders, where it seems all are in agreement that, while INFI is completely capable of stellar service, isn't really where its true strengths shine through.

My fondness/fanaticism of Busse & -kin lies not with its steel, at this time, but with its designs. That is entirely probably due to my insufficient exercising of the capabilities of INFI. However, I WILL state unequivocally that the Busse & -kin designs stand on their own merit, without relying on INFI to shine. At least IMHO.

Ouch!

But seriously, I was stumbling around a couple of days ago and ended up finding the page that lists where my posts are. The vast majority of them were in this forum, despite me being a relative newcomer to Busse and -kin.

I am going to try some folders in m390. I just have to find one I like in that steel.

God help you when you go to sharpen it.... It's gaining "Cult" status much like S30V did early on I will say I like it, but on small knives Elmax all the way.

Now INFI reigns hands down... I'll take my BJ INFI over my Bravo-1 in CPM3V every time!!

yeah, I just looked at it. 20% Cr and almost 2% Carbon. No thanks. There are people that just cut tape and paper with their knives. This steel is ok for that. I cannot stand S30V, probably the worst folder steel I have had. My old ATS34 and 154cm folders are much better than any S30V. Yet S30V was touted as being much better. BS!!

I only have one, a Griptilian, special run, from that knife seller way down south, in LA.

I have used my M390 Griptilian for months, on everything from mail to meat to cardboard to veggies (albeit careful to not cut against a ceramic plate, and no bricks). I don't think I've had to sharpen it yet, and it will still shave hair off my arm. It is the most amazing small blade I've ever had.

HOWEVER, I will say, ELMAX is a very close second. A ZT562 that I have in that steel will go for a couple of months cutting anything I want without needing to be sharpened. But I've taken it to fine ceramic stones a couple of times since I got it.

Both those knives are heavy users, both fantastic.

Agreed....Much prefer ATS34 &CPM154CM...S30V AND M390 are just gathering dust I'm sure some day I will use it just not any day soon. 154cm is my standard slipjoint blade material love the way it finishes and performs on slippy's!

Maybe I am weird, but I don't get hung up on steel types. I don't go chasing the newest super-steel to hit the market. I have been impressed with the limited number of knives in S30V and Elmax that I have. I will probably try M390 once the hype dies down and the next super-steel shows up. :)

Also, I think the term "best steel" depends on the purpose. The best steel for EDC probably isn't the best steel for a heavy use chopper or bushcraft blade. So I'd probably say S30V for EDC and O-1 for a heavy chopper.

And while the steel is important, so is the heat treat protocol. M390 with a crappy heat treat is still a crappy knife :).

Yep! ^
Back in the day, when Phill Hartsfield told me all he used was A2, I thought he was nuts. FAR from it.
