Sodbuster...and lots of them!

Well, my bullnose didn't show up today 😩 But the old case sodbuster did. There are cracks in the liners on both sides at the pivot. However it still locks up pretty solid. There is a tad of blade play side to side but up and down is like a bank vault. No pics yet. I'm sitting in the parking lot of Food Lion with a sleeping two year old in the back seat while the wife gets some groceries. I had the sodbuster shipped to my work address hoping it would be there during the week. I had to break in to the mailbox to get it out since we are closed on Saturdays and the key to the box is in the cash drawer. I think I may have a problem 😀 So now the question is what kind of slabs to rescale this baby with. I'm debating between green micarta or straight blue denim micarta.

Picked up a Black Linen Micarta 71, last night after reading this thread. I had not been keeping up with the release date, and was taken by surprise after coming in the thread and seeing all the who-ha, LOL. Yup got my order in at 1130 last night. Yeah!!!!

I ordered the same about an hour ago. I'm curious to see how it compares to my Case.

So I got home and decided just to leave the delrin on for now. I sanded down the scales some and filled the cracks with the dust and some super glue. I sanded everything down and finished it with 0000 steel wool. I cleaned up some of the scratches on the blade and buffed it on the buffing wheel. Then I put my stupid sharp edge on it. I love the way the old case cv steel finishes on a hard Arkansas stone. Hopefully this will keep me occupied until Monday afternoon when the bullnose arrives.

I'm hoping it will be just as good. When I was looking for one on a particular website, they indicated/determined the pull was about a 6. Which, if that is the case, my Sodbuster Jr, is going to me tighter. I hope the pull is heavier than that.

We will see.

Very cool. I'm curious as to what type/brand of superglue you used for the repair. It'd be nice to know what might work for me at some point in the future because I know I'm going to need it. Thanks

I think it was just loctite brand. It doesn't look perfect, you can still see where the crack was but it's filled and the joint is smooth. I still may rescale this thing eventually but I really just wanted to put it in my pocket to use tomorrow. I have a feeling that my incoming bullnose is going to take over my pocket when it arrives. 😀

Loctite. Ok. I thought it might have been some sort of industrial grade or something. Cool.

Yeah, I have a feeling my bullnose will take over my pocket as well.

I think you made the right choice - repair, cleanup, and sharpen. It could be a bit weak around the pin but I think it'll just fine for daily yeoman duties. If nothing else, it'll make a great glove box or console knife.

Good Job!!!!

"Mudbug on a Hot Tin Roof" eeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr "Mudbug on a Cold Tin Roof" (30º this AM). This is where it'll spend the Winter. Notice the bird dropping above the point of the blade to keep the Mudbug company. Maybe one of our fine feathered friends will score a direct hit - perhaps an Owl.

Rain and snow are on the way today.

Haha! I'll be a different bug in the spring, for sure. Patina in spades. You'll have to give up periodic updates over the winter (if it's not buried in snow).

Thank you. It's actually an elegant little simple knife. The pivot maybe a little weak but I'm not really worried about it. Im getting ready to test it out on some roast my wife cooked. Mmmmmmmm

It just started snowing about 20-minutes ago so the Mudbug is as snug as a bug in a rug for the winter.

I don't think I would have the courage to leave my Mudbug out in the elements just for science's sake. Certainly not considering the cost.

But good luck nonetheless.

Don't get the wrong idea. It's not for science's sake - it's just for the heck of it. People say these knives are tough that they wear well - we'll see. Wait till spring time rolls around. I'll use it for my tractor knife - maybe my shed knife.

I am completely comfortable with Ed's decision. The question is: will he be disappointed if it's spotless in the spring?

I think it's a great idea to leave a Mudbug out there all winter! As long as it's not my Bug. I look forward to seeing the results, and thanks to Ed for showing us his efforts.

Make no mistake. I am truly intrigued by what the results might be. I just don't think "I" could do it. Haha

Been out of town on a deer hunt since Thursday so I've been off the grid for a few days. I did managed to get an Ole' Yeller out in the stand with me, and it helped field dress a whitetail(not mine since I got blanked). Hoping to get a few better pics tomorrow!

Been carrying and really enjoying this Bull Nose for the past week. Did a decent amount of trimming branches from my stands this weekend with it as I didn't bring a saw...
