(SOLVED, happy with outcome) Need to call out a knife maker (Ken Coats) for his very poor response

The thread is about Ken Coats, the slip joint maker.

As far as I'm aware, he doesn't make after market clips for any brand. I believe that's what was meant by "combining makers/issues".

Yes, that's what I was referring to. Thanks for the assist!

I wish better for the OP and for Ken. Good luck.
This thread stinks overall and I wish it never needed to be started. However there is some irony:
Need to call out a knife maker (Ken Coats) for his very poor response....

His (bad) reputation is being broadcast/posted here every day as there is no resolve.

I gave you the number to make a call. Calling internationally is NOT that hard. Please do. It's been a week.

Posting something as negative/vocal as this without following through is also a poor response.

Keep us posted. I wish you well.

Yeah no kidding. Can't call from Australia. Can someone call him for me? More like a 12th birthday gift than a 21st one.

Kenny! I am sending psychic waves! READ THIS THREAD!!!

I am also wondering about this. Calling someone out publicly then not following up seems in poor taste. If you are going to handle the matter privately then do so, but once you have opened it up to the public it should be dealt with openly. There is no question the knife shown is not great but neglegence in updating this thread is irresponsible. This is still a mans livelihood. I hope this works out for everyone involved and I hope we get a resolution. 100% the OP should call him but if that doesnt happen soon maybe someone (who knows him) should inform the maker so he at least can have a say as well now that this is public record.

I just emailed Ken to alert him to this thread, hopefully email gets through if he has trouble with his email

Update: I've been in contact with Mr. Coats. He disputes OP's version of events. The replacement knife will be finished in a couple of weeks.

Care to explain, please? Maybe you can tell Mr. Coats to explain here? And, if the OP is wrong, why is there a need for a replacement knife?

It doesn't add up...

If someone in the US would be willing to call him that would be fantastic. Either that, or I can try calling international when I get over the heavy cold I currently have

I suggest, that you get to feeling better and call him yourself so nothing gets mixed up playing telephone with someone in the middle. I hope you feel better & you & the maker can get this sorted out! Best of luck!

Hello Ryan! Unless you are in the hospital with Strep Throat, you should have been able to contact "CALL" Mr. Coats by now??

Let's pump the breaks on piling on Ryan. I have had interactions with Ryan for quite awhile, I have sold him a couple knives as I recall and gifted him others. The reason I gifted him knives is I found him to be a extremely polite and honest individual.

I'm glad Ken is working on the replacement knife. We didn't get an explanation of how this other knife got shipped to him, but it doesn't really matter at this point.

I don't know of what all transpired behind the scenes between Ken and the OP. He said there was never two knives.
I got the impression he really doesn't want to interact with the OP any further, so I don't foresee Ken posting in this thread
He is standing behind his product and a replacement will be completed in a couple weeks. If this isn't a sufficient update and enough info then the
OP will have to make a phone call.

I do know that knife had alot of sentimental value to Ryan. Is Ken replacing the knife completely or fixing the backspring?

As a knife maker, I saw another maker being somewhat trashed and not knowing the maker or what had actually transpired I offered a solution and it’s to complicated for Ryan to figure out how to call Ken Coats & put this issue to rest, but he’s smart enough to open this thread about being dissatisfied & “Calling Out Ken Coats”on his poor response? Where I come from. “Calling out” is strong words..

TOMBSTONE TOMBSTONE Thanks for taking the time! However, what two knives? Maybe I missed something, but the way I read the OP's complaint was about sending a broken knife to the maker, a knife that he received as a present for his 21st Bday and, when the maker finally sent something back to the OP, it wasn't the repaired original knife the OP sent (the Bday knife), but another poorly made knife.
Is the maker saying that, in fact, the knife that the OP received WAS his '21st Bday present knife' repaired&modified?

Cheers!

There is certainly alot to be explained by both parties. I don't have a dog in this fight and could just as easily defend Ken. I own a Ken Coats knife, bought it direct from him and have had it serviced by him. I don't know the whole story, but I thought a character reference might be needed. I can vouch for either party.
