Some newly arrived ALOX!!!!

As promised....but apologies, I lost the light before I got chance to take these all out....

Nice collection Scruff!!!:thumbup: A Wenger SI too!!!!! :)

I see some scarce ones in there as well!!! A Safari SOLO, Safari Pathfinder (I think), an ALOX SOLO and ALOX Woodsman!!!!

I have a couple of NIB silver ALOX SOLOs and a older minty red one...

An old pic of the red one...

Thanks amigo. I thought these would float your boat.

You got em all right! The Woodsman is true unicorn poo, and LNIB.

The Bantam is one of the small run of green alox knives release solely for the Danish market. I love the colour, but if I'm honest, I think the Bantam/Cadet frame is too small for me. It REALLY disappears in the pocket though. One of these days I'm gonna pair it up with a M.C.Cognet L'Ecureuil, in a conjoined sheath.

Nice red Alox Solo! I love the Solo pattern in both nylon and Alox. It's a shame the latter doesn't have a bail or keyring.

I didn't really realise how soon the Wenger S.I's would sell out when I got mine. I'd really like another. The Farmer's saw is a bit superfluous to me....I should get a Pioneer I suppose....

Thanks Blaine.

The belt hanger is quite nice, a smart design, and good for when I'm out in the woods with a ferro-rod hanging on it....BUT it's heavier than the Farmer, then some!

The bread knife I really enjoy using BUT if you are a baker, I'd have to recommend the Victorinx Serrated Paring knife over this Alox folder as I find it 'drags' in the dough way too much.

Needed to take an insurance pic of the ALOX...

I found another SOLO Plus and tossed in a Cowboy and an Alpineer (I like 111mm's as well). The most recent Pioneer is the old guy soaking in the mineral oil bag.

The Red ALOX are various vintage Farmers/Pioneers with old cross/brass liners and newer vintage RED/color ones with alloy liners. The Soldiers are Wenger and Vics with different dates/conditions etc. I have a few redundant dates that are bkup EDC knives that live in my emergency/travel bags and packs. I pulled all these out of about 5 diff bags and packs for the pic.

That minty red old cross Pioneer at the very bottom is a "dated blade" example! :)

........

I like that belt hanger Scruff...I have a couple of the old style leather ones.

Here's a pic of the leather ones with my Vic key ring I received back in the 80's when I was a SAK dealer.

That's explains a lot! :D

You are absolutely right bro! I grew to love SAKs (esp ALOX) as a dealer and amassed a really nice collection.

It gets worse!

I actually lost my entire initial collection of SAKs (except one Pioneer) in the '06 wildfire...all these SAKs are an attempt to get back to where I was before.

Awesome collection SAKGuy! I love the Alox Cadet and now have six of them amongst a smattering of other Alox models, I'll try and take a picture later this week. Nothing to compare with yours though.

Wow! Cool....but also commiserations.

Say, can I ask you about the mini-screwdriver bits? As an occasional eyeglass wearer, I've picked a couple up on-line to put into my Rucksack and Safari Trooper. However, they don't seem to sit at all well when I switch them around to hold in the corkscrew to use.

They have a hex faceted grey body, and I think perhaps they are not Victorinox branded ones.

Should these be round with the patented mark? And also, do the round bodied 'official' versions sit in your 108mm and 111mm models properly when switched round for use?

Thank you Erik! I'm a haphazard accumulator compared to the really hardcore collectors.

Someday, I will try to get the Cellidor (plastic) SAKs out and shoot them.

There were several variations of the accessory screwdriver, the hex ones are the latest. They are designed to fit some new models better but I really like the old round ones and the ones with "Pat" are older, IIRC. On the Safari Troopers, the round ones fit correctly/deeper and when reversed, work better. The new hex one does not fit the Safari trooper but works on the SOLO+ (which is a newer incarnation of the Safari series).

Just pulled an old round "Pat' one (top) off a vintage Champion to try on a green Safari Trooper...the new hex one is on the bottom.

Vic changed the corkscrew at some point and the later adapted the screwdrivers to fit the new screws and scales. The older round ones won't close completely in some of the newer knives. I generally put old with old (if I have them) and new with new to match the knife.

Just checked them on an 111mm Alpineer and they both fold/fit but again, the round one goes deeper into the screw.

Ah ha, thanks. The hex ones all fit in my corkscrews fine for storage.

I was thinking about when you are not storing the screwdriver, but instead, using the (deployed) corkscrew like a socket in which to hold the driver when screwing?

Man, I'm so going Safari tomorrow!!

p.s. I sent you an email btw ;)

I wonder why they won't fit my Green Safari Troopers? Even when reversed, the hex ones I tested sat crooked where you couldn't use it.

Wait - you're supposed to screw the eyeglass driver back into the corkscrew to use it?! I have been doing it wrong for, like, 25 years! I've always just used the corkscrew to store it and held it in my fingers to use.

I've seen it done both ways. I was never skilled enough to reverse it in the corkscrew but have seen it done by a rep.

Well, to be honest, I was beginning to think that's not what you were supposed to do, and holding them was THE way to use em.

SAKGuy - I understand that the corkscrew has changed a little over the years, so may be the number of twists or inner diameter of the Green Safari's has changed. According to Sakwiki the corkscrew is actually the only piece of an SAK they outsource.....but they do go to the experts....the French for them.

The SAK corkscrew has never failed me, hats off to the French......

I knew there was a reason I collect/use vintage A. Sauzedde waiter tools! :D
