Some newly arrived ALOX!!!!

.......

Let us know what you find out about that Franken-SAK.
..........

I totally forgot to post a pic of that Wenger repair/hybrid SI tangstamp....my camera's lousy but you can see it.

I gotta drag those Soldiers back out and compare them to this one....I'm getting old I reckon.

I joined and asked about this knife over at multitool.org....and the consensus so far is that it is a Swiss issued Wenger. Apparently, post '92, when the Vic Soldiers went to all solid rivets, some issue Wenger SI's were produced with the solid rivets. I compared my new one to another '97 Wenger I had (with a hollow rivet/ bail) and they are identical.

So mystery solved (for now)...it is a seldom seen official Swiss issue Wenger (in unused condition).

Here's my comparison pix of the two 97's.

Very interesting and a unique little addition to your collection.

Thanks for the update.

Very cool stuff! I have been checking out the ALOX models for sometime now (ever since I found my old SAK Climber stashed away since 1990-91), and I finally broke down and ordered three last night - I figured I'm paying for shipping already, so might as well get more than one!!! I'll of course post pics when they arrive...

Which ones did you order?

Is there any truth to the rumor that they are going to stop making alox models? I can't recall where I heard it, but it about gave me myocardial infarction.

Most models have been discontinued. Only the Cadet, Pioneer, Farmer, and Classic are still in production, I believe.

I heard that too...something about the machines eventually wearing out but I can't see them completely getting rid of such popular models. Vic make lots of special issues and color runs for a healthy collector (and user) market. After the fire, I decided to collect the 93mm's so unless I'm incarcerated or dead, I'll always own some Pioneer/Farmer/Soldier ALOX. Now the prices for older or rare ones are getting crazy! Used Soldier prices have doubled and tripled in 2 years an I just saw some rare colored ALOX listed for 299.00- 599.00.

I saw dealers listing some new variations Pioneer Harvesters and Pioneer Pruners...these may be out of production now but a lot of them just showed up on the bay.

I guess I will have to be more vigilant in my quest for Alox Cadets. Missed a few really great ones on the exchange last week. Got three in the mail today though! :D

Tell me about it; I'm a little late to the Alox party, and I'd love to find a good deal on the ol' auction site for a red Pioneer. Sheesh!

I'm very late to the party! I just got my very first Alox sak a day or two ago. It's a black cadet, and its a wonderful knife. Why didn't someone tell me how awesome Alox SAKs were!!?! I didn't know they made a Alox classic. That might be one to try to find. What is the next size up in the Alox line from a cadet? I'm not very good at the number designations they have on them. I think I might have to make a neck sheath like the ones up a little ways in this thread. Might be kind of handy sometimes. I had never thought of that.

I guess the next size up from a Cadet is the 93mm. The Pioneers, Farmers, Soldiers and Electricians at 3 5/8" closed. The kydex necker sheaths are extremely handy. I love 'em! I put little snaphooks on mine to attach keys etc. for when I'm wearing gym shorts/swim trunks.

Here's a better pic of the kydex sheath....
