Some people NEED to stick with $5 knives

This thread needs to die, I'm way over the little scratch and I already made my little spiel to explain myself. I bet you after a week later and probably over 20,000 views and 10+ pages later I'll still be getting sh*t. I really opened up a can of worms this time.

I would say that you nailed it with that statement.

That wasn't funny. A $500 framelock should have a liner under the G-10 or CF. I'll stick to Hinderers, the tiny bit of addtl. weight is negligible and the liner makes it feel indestructable. Same with a ZT 0301 = bombproof feeling.
I was not trying to make a joke. I'm not certain how much "hard use" you put your knives through, but if there was a problem due to the liner not being there, don't you think we would have read a couple hundred threads about it? Along with dozens of pictures? Most of the threads on hard use knives here are hilarious to a point. People are genuinely concerned about the toughness of the knife that will more than likely never see the inside of a pocket, much less some good honest work because "I can't bring myself to use a $500 knife". The perception of indestructibility is quite different than the reality. ;)

Now that's funny right there!:D:thumbup:
I totally know what you mean! I loaned my hammer to a jackass friend of mine and I caught the idiot not 3 minutes later HITTING NAILS! Seriously, you should have seen my hammer. It was horrible.

I'm sure they're stong and agree with you 100%, but I still prefer lined folders - call me "whatever?" I don't fit in the category of the guys who's knives don't see anything but pocket lint or the inside of a safe.

I don't do any crazy NOSS type use of my hard use knives but I sure don't use them to split apples or open envelopes. I coat the blades and they're not food safe. I have little slicers for that stuff. Centofante 3 & S30V Leek - two really sharp slicers.

I'll admit that lack of enthusiasm lately hasn't afforded me the opportunity to really beat on my knives but they're users, other than a few "back-ups" of certain folders. I only have about a dozen folders now and only 5 are what I'd hard use types. Have a couple of Sebbies but don't include them - I think they're more medium duty.

I've batoned a lot of small peices of wood and shaved stuff for tinder and made numerous fires with my folders. I've made lean-to Y's and cross beams, a lousy debris shelter and practiced stuff I see on TV. I'd probably be better off using my ESEE knives for that but I haven't had any problems with using anything from XM-18s to RAT-1 linerlocks for this stuff. :D

One thing I don't have is scratches on my ti lockbars caused from claw like fingers! :D

Wweeelllll..... at least all the posts are in this thread and NOT in your PM inbox. :D

On a side note, I've never handled a Strider, but those handles just look uncomfortable to me.

Me either. Ya know they really do look awkward but everyone says the ergos are great! I'll probably end up buying an SMF they''re big honking knives - and I dig big folders! I figure an SMF CC should give me a big knife with a comfy grip (I hope). What sucks is that I've never handled a Strider and don't know what the various grips feel like.

I like polished micarts so I figure the CC grip should be the smoothest. I'll try one maybe but still want another XM-24 for a back-up and the new ZT flipper, so it's going to be awhile to scratch up the extra $$ :D

Especially with the Aluminum handled ones they are making now. Really addresses the issue of no liners on the G10 side. Not that I'm saying the ti/g10 are weak, just that it makes a few people uncomfortable.

Only one thing to do here to redeem yourself; give the strider to your friend.

I don't feel that I need any "redeeming", as somebody said it's the internet, I could care less. I already lost a lot of respect for a lot of the members here. As I said in earlier posts, if you have a strider or a sebenza or any other high end knives, you can ship it to me and I'll gladly scratch it all up for you if you seriously think it's a good thing to get your $500+ knives all scratched up. Otherwise, give it a rest. I'm just glad I'm not seeing another comment about my friend's awesome fingernails because that got old after the 2nd page.

I have a better idea, give it to me. I'll make sure to add many "hard use" scratches to it, so that lil fingernail scratch won't feel lonely.. :D

Cover your eyes. :D

Honestly, I think wear and tear on a Strider looks awesome.

C'mon The Logical One, buck up dude, there'll always be a post here and there in threads that gets a guuy's goat - no worries. This thread has been a blast. :D I told ya about my buddy wrecking my leverlock Italian switchblade.

In other threads like: "Do You Loan Your Knives to People" these same guys post "NO" or "I cut it for them " or "only if it's a fellow knifenut" or "I don't tell anyone I have a knife," & "I keep a knife to loan out to other people." Believe it, cuz I've read the threads.

Your thread just took on a life of it's own which is a great time for everybody who want to post zany stuff. I've enjoyed it immensely and even tried to scratch the lockbar on my new Sebenza. It definitely gave - after digging into it but the marks washed off. They always say to get that first scratch out of the way on a nice folder and then you can stop worrying about it and keeping it pristine. Like somebody said (maybe in jest?) perhaps it was a crappy anodizing job?

Unfortunately I disagree and would have been livid first at my pal and then finally, at myself for letting the oaf gouge my knife up!

Like my switchie, in the end I realized that it was me that was the horse's patoot who let him play with it, having no knife knowledge and unsupervised. He was just frustrated that the lever didn't work in all directions like a freakin joystick! I think I'm still pissed about that and I don't have it anymore.

What did you really expect? You had someone a $500 knife and then complain that they didn't close your $500 knife correctly and damaged it with their fingernail! Easiest way to avoid that is not hand anyone your $500 knife. If it getting scratched is that much of a concern, I wouldn't carry it at all myself.

I also wouldn't spend $500 on a folding knife, but to each their own. As long as you are satisfied with your stuff, you're right not care about what anyone thinks.

People do not read all the posts. They hardly read a few first and a few last ones in the thread. So that is why the same joke gets repeated over and over again, sometimes a few times on the same page. No surprise.
As for the photo of the scratched Strider from 5.56 - I guess it was scratched while sharpening a pencil, wasn't it?
It is a new joke for that thread - is it? ;)

That is a great observation! And most of the time the issue is about knives which are just cheapos compared... :D
