Some SAK love

Can anyone recommend a craftsman who would be able to repair my SAK mod? Broken Torx screw (don't ask what happened)

The ones that I have monkied with have 1/8" diameter internally threaded barrels. The thread is #2X56TPI. Did you tangle with LokTite? Is the screw head broken off? Is the TORX recess stripped? Do you have small left handed drill bit and the means to spin it counter clockwise? Is your knife all metal?View attachment 1321835

The knife is all metal - Titanium. The Torx screws are #6. Looks like a 1/8 inch barrel but I'm still determine the details. I may seek out a left hand drill bit - hadn't thought of that. The head is not countersunk but rather a straight sided head that is recessed into the scales. As mentioned before; a #6 Torx. Thanks for the reply to my post.

OK, The recess size (#6) does not determine the screw size, although many #2 screws have #6 recesses. If your cap screw still has a cap, and the TORX recess is usable, heat the cap with a soldering Iron to melt the thread adhesive. I can walk you through some tricks, but I need more information.

The cap was broken off and the remaining treaded part of the screw is still in the pivot barrel. I will try heating it to loosen the piece of the screw still remaining but so far it's not budging. Probably simpler just to buy new pieces and reassemble the knife. Thanks much for your reply to my post.

The barrel can be pushed out, but all the parts will go flying. The modified limited hangout is to remove the good screw, run a long screw through a new barrel (so that threads are protruding), screw the protruding threads into the unblocked end of the old barrel, and push the old barrel out with the new one.

Thanks for the recommendations. I taped everything together and took it all apart whilst taking pictures. The maker is sending me new pivots and screws.

View attachment 1322520 Ti SAK's are the ticket. I keep spare screws and barrels around. Long parts can be cut to size. You can red LokTite a screw into one end of a barrel turning it into a T-nut. That way, using 2 tools, you can keep the barrel from spinning, and only 1 screw is removable.
Good tip with the locktite. I may try my hand at doing my own mods now that I have gained some confidence in tearing down and rebuilding the one I currently own.:)

I don't usually carry a SAK but do have a few. As millions of people have known through out the years and you guys too these knives are very useful and durable unless you're Onebigbill Onebigbill who seems to have gotten a little ham fisted:eek: with the torx screw on one of his SAK knives.:D
