Someone hacked my profile

WTF?!?!?! This is crazy... I wonder what the odds are that the real/fake ones know each other? Possibly social engineering? Why would someone intentionally want to steal someone's BF profile??? And then try to sell through it? Seems like a lot of high risk work without much promise to reap the rewards...

Well dude already got someone to send him money. Ironically, right as I tried to login I got a note from Chrome saying my password had been part of a data breach

He was able to log straight into your profile, so your password has been compromised somehow:

This is why 2 factor is sometimes a good thing.

The website seems to have more than it's fair share of hacking going on. If can't trust even veteran members, I can't do any business here. There is a guy on YouTube and numerous articles around about it. I'm done.

Case closed. I got fucked.

Members have issues with their passwords being compromised because they use the same passwords on various sites... which get compromised. I've had it happen elsewhere, which is why I don't use any common passwords on BladeForums.com related stuff, and enable 2 factor authentication.

Not yet. PayPal was kind is silly about it. Told them a friend I've known for years message me from an online forum and asked for some money. Then found their account was hacked. They put it in for investigation. We'll see.
That's not PayPal being silly - you used the service inappropriately, then furthered the lie in an attempt to recoup your funds. They're not obligated to issue refunds for f&f payments.
It sucks that you might lose the money; but it isn't as if you didn't know better.

*Edited - you've now posted the outcome, claiming you got f'd. It's an unfortunate situation; but one that didn't have to happen. Hopefully others will learn to just close the ad, or end negotiation, as soon as f&f appears.

Thanks for fixing me up Spark, you are still the prettiest pirate I've ever seen 😘

Unsure how a user can access his account if someone hacked it and changed the password?

Use complex passwords, and never the same one on more than one site.

There are several good password managers out there. Take advantage of them. They make life much easier.

In addition to password managers I suggest visiting this site. https://haveibeenpwned.com/ once in a while.

If you enter your email it will show you if it has bern compromised or not. If you have a password manager called 1password it is already connected to this service.

There is this. An unbelievable amount of emails has been hacked in the last few years. 3 Bio in one shot just this Feb. https://www.consumeraffairs.com/new...-possibly-the-largest-breach-ever-020421.html

Plus, if you have a "free" email (yahoo, gmail, etc.), which is free because the respective companies regularly scan your email for marketing purposes, you can be sure that many employees in those companies have easy access to your email, too.

There are alternatives, but I don't want to sound like a sales guy .... it was a pain to switch for me a few years back, but once done, it's well worth it.

Roland.

I learned my lesson about reusing passwords when the uspsa.org password file got "hacked" years ago. I put it in quotes because at the time, the passwords along with email addresses were sitting in an unencrypted .txt file, just waiting to be taken. That was even dumber than reusing passwords. On the bright side, years later I still get entertaining emails telling me that my system was hacked and they've been watching me do things online ... all I have to do is send them $XXXX in bitcoin to stop them from posting video online. I have a whole collection of them now!
