This issue was not the fault of BF, and not necessarily UWF's either. Saying that it's either of their faults when a criminal act was committed is placing blame in the wrong place. The blame lies squarely on the criminal hacker. You could have the strongest password possible, and it could still be hacked....

You seem to want our sympathy here, but we've seen this BS with people stupidly paying for goods using F&F over and over and over again. It's against the rules you agreed to when you set up your PayPal account, it's as simple as that. So pardon us if we're not overly sympathetic to your plight. Had you paid via G&S this conversation would be going totally differently. The only reason you're getting much any sympathy at all is due to the fact that you were scammed.

PS - I know I'm not the only one who's also noticed that it seems you're only here on BF to buy and sell. That's not helping your case...

For years I have used Bladeforums as a place for information concerning steel composition, sharpening etc. I wanted to get knives that I don't have access to and be able to sell them. I've learned all that I need to know and have asked questions when I have needed answers. Jab if you'd like, but you don't know anything except your that your own heart is dark and you wish to put it upon me. It doesn't phase me. You will be judged for your unnecessary jabs.
 
Ps; I don't want your sympathy, although that's how we should act towards one another. Put ourselves in their shoes and try to be kind. That not your objective. I was scammed. I should have paid G&S. I shouldn't trust websites as much and I've learned a valuable lesson. Hopefully Unwise and the Admins here have too. I own up to what I've done wrong, will you?

I think they need to up the password requirements to stronger ones. At least that's what I'm reading from other members here. They didn't do anything wrong, just something to consider. I'm hopeful that we've all learned a valuable lesson here.
 
I will speak plainly. I don't think unwisefool or the site or admins are to blame for any of this, and based on some of DaK's posts, I would expect as reasonable an answer to the question as I would from my cat about human matters. Forgive me if that's harsh, but I think DaK's take on this in unnecessarily harsh towards those it should not be.

I ask for forgiveness for the time that I placed all of the blame on this place and unwisefool unwisefool , as if that wasn't clear from my last 3-4 replies?

You are emotionally involved in this conversation. I am financially involved. There is a clear cut 😘 difference.

Years??? You just signed up in April. Did you have another account before that? Point me towards a question you've asked here. I don't see that you've participated anywhere else on the forum other than this thread, and the B/S/T forums.

This didn't start out as anyone being unkind to you. You got all defensive because it was pointed out that you shouldn't have used F&F for what should have been a G&S payment, and started acting a fool. So you're getting treated in kind. That this is an isolated incident completely belies what you're saying. ANY password can be forcefully hacked with the right tools, and it's not up to the site admin to enforce something like that. It seems that the hack might have actually occurred somewhere else (his email), and BF has zero control over that...

You're emotionally involved. Your motivation is only mental. Therefore, you can leave the conversation at any point. My involvement is financial, therefore I continue to pursue.

However, this conversation left the rails a long time ago. It left track when I began to be berated. I have all of the relevant information I need to find the scammer and have done what I can to retrieve my funds. I have no reason to continue to reply to these silly comments.

I'm not siding with the thief. It sucks that you got scammed, and there's no excusing the scammer. If I had a beef with you, you'd be on my ignore list.

I liked that comment because I agree that you misused PayPal (by paying for goods with F&F), and then misused it again by telling PayPal a made-up story (about not buying goods with F&F) in an effort to try to recoup your funds. I have nothing against you, and no stake in how any of this turns out beyond a shared love for BladeForums and a desire to see it continue to be a good place to chat about and buy/sell knives.

I think PayPal F&F should be flatly forbidden on BF, full stop. PayPal G&S exists in part to solve the exact problem of being scammed out of one's money.
