That's nice looking for a first set of wheels, Dawson. My first car was a '63 Ford Falcon.....in 1981 (or '82, I don't remember). POS, really...but it taught me about repair and maintenance. Boy, did it EVER teach me about repair and maintenance. Swapped out the engine with one from a '72 Pinto (IIRC) due to the original running out of coolant, my dad saying: 'just keep driving and we'll get some coolant when we get home" and then the rings all cracked from overheating. Got some really sharp lessons in LOTS of things cars when I was young. 'Twas good though, and those lessons have served me well over the past few decades.

Thanks GSOM. It's definitely a lot better than I thought I would get, and it was about the same price as a mid-late 90s truck in decent shape goes for. Got a great deal on it really. It's not totally without problems, has a bit of a coolant leak I'm gonna need to fix, and dad ordered a couple new struts that open the window at the back (window opens upward and gate opens sideways like Wranglers do) because the old ones are a bit old at the top and if they bust a certain way you've gotta buy a whole new window, so I'm gonna fix those too. And I'm gonna learn to do all of the normal maintenance on it so I don't have to take it to a shop to get the oil changed and stuff.

Gratz Nos. I just inquired about a Wrangler tonight.

Thanks! What year Wrangler?

Good lookin' rig Nos!
Some beautiful countyside too.

Thanks Jonny!

sweeeeeeeeeet

scored a really clean 1921 copy of Kephart's Camping and Woodcraft for cheap money.

not hard to get but delightful for all that :D

if one of you borrowed Ethan's copies, give them back before he has to buy another one

beware the "new" reprints - the pictures a are either missing, or horrible. lots of typos as well

buy used but not abused

Time to start the Jeep mod enabling....

what's with all these jeep's having piercings? :D

well, one week ago about now i was in the midst of 103ish dF fever, and 36 hours later, shivered my way back to my feet. several days of cough mediciations and wow, i almost feel normals.

just less than 3 weeks to end of contract, kinda random "oh, we ran out of budget, sorry, that happens more than we'd like" lol

right.... they just happened to run out of money right when i was just finishing the actual work early ;)

I love Bill Mauldin! i got my dad a book with all of his illustrations for fathers day one year plus he served with the 45TH infantry division which is out of Oklahoma, so thats a plus

I'll ditto this.

Enjoy your ride bro, way nicer than what i started with too. Hell you got 4x4. Enough said.

Screw what others think if you like it and it serves your needs well.

I got lots of people around here that ask why i didn't go with chevy dodge or ford... Toyota is not american.... Blah blah blah.... My truck was built and born in Texas... Can't get much more American than Texan lol

My daughter was conceived in Asia and born in Texas... I have had good results with her so far too lmao.

Nice wheels Dawson. Way nicer that my first or second vehicle as well. Now go get it dirty.

I picked up a couple Quantum baitcast reels to use for trolling for walleye this summer. I've never actually really casted a baitcast reel, so I went and bought an ugly stik this morning and am going to see how bad of a mess I can make. If I don't do too bad with it I might try getting a few pike with it tomorrow.

Baitcasters... A good way for me to make a mess of some line real quick. :D

Not a baitcast reel but i got a quantum optiX 60 on a big catfish ugly stick that has been working well for the price.

Found a small boat i want on craigslist. New boat With New trolling motor. Small pelican 2 person boat.

Now I'm just praying it's still available on the 1st when i get paid.

Really wanting something i can stand up on. Have a kayak and love kayaking.... But i want something i can stand up on and cast.... Or take a piss... Whatever lol

Where you off to now? Seems like the mid-west is a bit off your usual trek.

Chicago is well situated between Providence and Victoria, BC. Just coming back from some prep.
Lousy food in that airport. It's all carbs, carbs, carbs. Not a lick of fat at the smoothie bar. I ate at Chili's as the 'healthy' option....

I'll probably make a mess with it too. Didn't really think about it much and just spooled it with the line I plan to use for trolling..........20lb power pro braid ...........that may have been a dumb idea.

Good luck on the boat. I'm really looking forward to getting ours out a lot this summer. I need to get a trolling motor for it and rebuild the carb on the outboard and it should be good to go. It ran pretty good the one time we took it out last fall, but it didn't want to idle right.

Maybe we should have a dedicated Jeep thread. lol

Sounds good to me, but then what would we talk about in the snark?

It's a 99. Wrangler Sport. Lifted, good sized tires, etc.

Do it (x2). Mom has a 99 Wrangler Sahara and it's what made me want a Jeep of some sort.

I'll ditto this.

Thanks WW. I like it so far. Got it cleaned up nice inside, most of the smoke smell is out now. Mom used to work in housekeeping at the hotel she works at, so someone there is gonna give her some stuff called smokeaway that's supposed to get it out the rest of the way.

I've already gotten the grumpy Grandpa's opinion on it. :D He says the noise it makes when it starts (the idler pulley squeaks a bit) is a dealbreaker and he wouldn't own it if you paid him. The best part is that he says his Ford Explorer is the best vehicle on the road, but it makes awful noises all the time.

Thanks AC. Gonna take it through the woods this morning and see how it goes.
