BTW rizza32 since you like to laugh and poke shame at others misfortunes you been placed on ignore. I don't find humor in such nonsense and bad misfortune unlike yourself.
If the knife was new and u tried to return it I would understand. Seems just a little unreasonable to use and sharpen then be upset when the maker won’t regrind. I don’t care who the maker is that request is a little rediculous. If u get a new knife in and u can’t tell if it’s sharp then it’s time to take advantage of the research capabilities of this site.

I saw neither laughing or poking shame? But it is your prerogative to use the ignore button to your heart's content.
#overreacting
Laughing emote over someone's misfortune? Seems pretty crude to me. Especially over $300 and no customer service. If you don't like my choice and got a problem with me. Feel free to do the same to me. I won't lose any sleep. I did not overreact. I just don't like people who find misfortune on others funny. And I actually find those types of people to be disturbing. I expect an infraction. And that is fine with me in this case.
Anyways, I won't bother commenting or following the OP's post anymore.

Why do you expect an infraction?
I thought I was a bit too overboard in my reply and chosing to ignore. My apologies. I am just a bit disgusted over the recent events concerning Hoback. And it has affected my mind set. On top of owning a $300 Strider I cannot find any service for. Only to have someone laugh at misfortune of others. Instead of offering any critique.

Over reaction, maybe… everyone reacts differently.

Overboard, not even close… carry on.

With Strider knives you either love it or hate it. They’re built with one purpose in mind and that’s to be hard use tools, hence why they continue to ship them out in ziplock baggies.

If you’re supper nit-picky with your knives and don’t really use them I’d say don’t go with Striders. They almost all have lock stick (it gets a little better but it’s usually always there) I wouldn’t say it’s bad lock stick but yea. They’re almost all usually not centered lol and Strider doesn’t consider an off-center knife an issue.

The 3/4 grind blades are super thick and not really for me. Their other drop point is a pretty good alternative and is pretty slicey.

I like mine a lot. Super fun to fidget, on washers, and eventually when I get around to using it hard I know it’s going to serve me well. Their customers service is great as well.

Overall I would recommend if you keep everything I mentioned in mind.

Yeah this has been a lot. Thanks for blocking me. I will avoid u as well. Too sensitive and unreasonable to have dialogue with ✌️

I personally would have an issue financially supporting the actions of someone like that. If you can get past that, good for you.

Unfortunately, I supported him before all the crapstorm. "Supported" might be an understatement. Hell, I probably put his kids through college.

I have owned dozens of Striders and M. Strider customs. At the time, they were exceptional, and not many were trying to compete with him except Ernie, perhaps. I now own only 2 - my SMF for sentimental reasons, and my custom Nightmare GB (one of two he made).

I never had any issues with customer service and spoke to Mick directly, on several occassions. He was also prompt to respond to emails.

Fast forward to today's offerings and market, Striders are worth no where near the value they command on the secondary market IMO. They are "ok" knives with "ok" steel and "ok" heat treatment by today's standards. The exception were the blades with HT by Bos. They were pretty nice.

Back on point - I never really liked the SnG for reasons already stated, primarily too much choil and the awkward handle to blade angle.

Pics of my Nightmare GB and SMF, just for reference:

Any other knives in that 500-800 price range that I should look at that are similar and sort of fill that same role? Looking for something that's currently available, whether new or on the secondary market.

Like you, I bought a Protech Strider SNG auto. I still own it and have no need/interest in paying more to own a "real" Strider SNG.

$500-800 is beyond my price limit for buying ANY knife. So, can't help you with this either. There are a lot of knives that are "priced" in this range but sell for less. Nothing like the SNG but nice knives just the same.

If you haven't considered them before, take a look at Olamic Rainmakers or Wayfarers which are priced at $500-800 but sell in the $300-400 range.

FWIW, here's a pic of my Olamics. Both are as plain as they get (as far as Olamics are concerned) but were priced according.

The Wayfarer is entirely unfinished but the Rainmaker has some nice gold colored accents and a gold colored backspacer against the bronze finish (that I tried to reveal in the photo but I'm a lousy photographer) which I find very attractive.

Honestly I was pretty anti because of the history with Mick. I skeptically tried the .75ar cause it was safe and made by Medford. Fast forward now and I own 3 smf and 1 sng. Love the ergos and great middle finger open. Not for everyone and definitely not perfect. Secondary seems like hell for all desirable knives right now. Mark up on all Hinderer, striders, crk Koenig u name it. Supply and demand. Would love a full ti some day

Great suggestion on olamic been meaning to pull the trigger on a rainmakerA8F15AC3-21BF-4F95-89C9-8719C116B22E.jpeg

Since you want an opinion...lol...That is one of the knives that I do not think is worth the money. But that is certainly a matter of opinion, since I don't really think there are many folders worth over $200 (to me, that is). But other folks probably wouldn't be caught carrying anything UNDER $200...

Look at a Hinderer. If you are patient you could get one at a reasonable price here.

Corton93 Corton93 The only way to find out - is to get one. If you can find one in PD1, go for it. A few members mentioned “can always sell it”. I’ve had my share of SNG’/SMF’s - I’d be lying if I said I don’t stop and stare at them ( hoping someone will buy before I do ). I’ve never made profits selling my striders, but I’ve not lost much $ either.

Good luck with your search ( avoid the trend scalper pricing if possible ).

So sounds like ur recommending newer production 🤷🏻‍♂️ Isn’t that what I said 😬
No. You defined newer production as anything marked “M. Strider”. The current lock geometry incarnation was adopted prior to the adding of “M. Strider” to the tang. My point is that production date matters more than tang stamp, and no, a knife from 2013/14 isn’t “newer production” when compared to the current production batches being put out by Mick’s shop. I’d define “newer production” as anything made post dissolution of SKI.

Lemme try to talk you out of a Strider knife. And this is not due to his stolen valor and controversy. But an actual purchase made from Knife Center 2 months ago.
I bought this knife for $300. And the specs were a bit misleading and lacking info such as blade grind and angle that would have changed my mind about Mr Strider.

Upon arrival the blade was dull as a butter knife. Scratched up a bit, The finish wearing off from a few withdrawals from the Kydex sheath. Near half inch spine and super steep blade bevel that cannot be sharpened to the point of shaving or even a good work sharp due to the geometry. I even spent $20 to have it professionally sharpened. Ruining the return policy from KnifeCenter.
Well the pros did improve the blade sharpness but it was still working sharp and not able to cleanly slice paper. Even after I put a honing steel on it. It would barely slice paper. And the knife would struggle cleanly cutting paracord and small bamboo sticks. No other knife I had ever owned had trouble cutting baby green Bamboo that is less than a quarter inch thick.
If you get a Strider and like it. That is great and I realize that the SNG has better geometry than my fixed blade.
However. The pisser for me is that I have tried to call Mr Strider and sent a few Emails over a month ago asking him if he would redo the blade angle so I could use it for work purposes.
He has not once reached out to me to help or offer any services.
So now I am stuck with a knife that indeed looks awesome. But has the cutting ability of a crow bar. And I am very turned off that I spent $300 on a new knife that I cannot get serviced or even a simple reply from M. Strider.
The knife came to me in an ugly cheap box with no insulation or plastic to cover the knife during shipping. It was never opened. So Mick is to blame. Not KnifeCenter.
Not to mention the cheapskate would not even add a tek lock or clip to the sheath to clip to your belt. For $300. That should be a given.
Also, due to his bad history and lying about his service. Expect many to not want to buy your Strider if you ever decide to sell it.

You do as you please. and I wish you the best. But, putting his lying and stolen valor aside. I will pass on any more Strider products since he did not even try to offer me any customer service.
I feel a bit ripped off and taken. And stuck with a knife that is not good for anything other than looking cool and stabbing. And it struggles to even stab a few layers of cardboard due to the blade grind.
But, I blame myself for impulsive purchasing and should have sent it back to KnifeCenter instead of having it sharpened professionally thereby voiding the warranty.
Had Mick Strider simply responded to my many requests to offer to regrind my blade edge into something more useful. Instead of ignoring me. I would not have a problem or complain about the knife.
But he showed me that he did not care about his own customers. A $300 mistake I will never make again. Now I am stuck with this thing and cannot resell it for even half of what I put into it. The knife I received had an edge that was way too steep/overground and looked nothing like in the picture.View attachment 1768766
Yeah, SnGs are selling readily for premiums. Sorry you can’t sell your fixed blade, but that’s not the case with the SnG and SMF.
