Southern Grind Spider Monkey

Love my Bad Monkey, and I can give a crap about its steel. It cuts very well. Looking forward to picking up the smaller version.

Maybe they are moving away from the "wave" for some reason. Their "build your own" doesn't offer it, and I have never seen a g10 scaled Bad Monkey with it either. They only seem to offer it in the original configuration (Carbon Fiber Scales). I have asked around and never gotten a clear answer about it.

It looks like it is missing an appendage. Why is the wave feature ground off?

I respectfully disagree. I despise the wave feature. It was one of the reasons (along with size) I sold my Bad Monkey. I wouldn't have bought the Spider Monkey if it was waved.

I don't mind the wave and I've never had an issue with either of my Bad Monkeys but I am definitely glad the wave isn't on the Spider Monkey.

This version is their assisted opening version without the royalties of the emerson wave.

Assisted? Mine must be broken then.

I have been carrying mine all day and fondling it often with a little light use. I just noticed something I had missed before. I now see they are still using the screws that require a spanner tool to remove/tighten. That is very disappointing to me. Why not just use a allen key or a Torx like most other makers. Don't get me wrong .... I love it still and am very happy with my purchase but I sure wish they would have changed that with this design.

Wrong terminology i guess...

Works like a wave without it being the emerson wave.

Thumb stud is all I am seeing as well.

I think what mammy is saying is there is a ledge in front/above the stud that could possibly be used to help in deployment if one were really skilled.

Didn't realize it but after a little BF stalking it seems mammy works for Southern Grind as a sharpener. Sorry bro. Not trying to imply you don't know your stuff.

I could see it being waved much like a zip tied spydie. I guess it cuts down the chance of unintended waves.
I also am dissapointed about the hardware. If you're going to do that then send a tool.

I was starting to wonder if they were going to put some new folder designs out. I hope to see some other (non monkey) designs.

I like the look of this. Will there be a waved model like the bad monkey?

From what I've heard from them, there will not be. They were trying to keep costs down by not having to pay to use the Emerson patent

I want one of these... I love the look of its bigger bro but the size was too much.. This looks perfect!
