SPAMarama!

I think my first taste of spam was growing up as a young feller in Texas when we would buy surplus army food from the army surplus store when we went camping and fishing. SPAM came in olive drab green cans. We had a lot of it. I still like it and I think it’s one of the Texas major food groups.
Where did you grow up in Texas?==KV

Get real, Sliverama:

I can handle Spam but not this stuff .

I think it was already mentioned how on Hawaii they have SPAM sushi. When I first got to Okinawa in Dec 1961, go into any Mom & Pop corner store (about the only kind I remember seeing) and I do not remember seeing SPAM, but there was always several brands of Dutch made equivalent to SPAM. The Tulip brand is one I remember well. It was popular as it was cheap, came in a can as most homes did not have refrigeration, and was readily available in all those little Mom & Pop stores. John

Hawaii is the top Spam consumption State and possibly the world. Introduced in WWII The locals love Pork & Spam is cheap .. Though I would call Spam a Pork byproduct! To darn salty & greasy for me. Unless of course you’re camping & really hungry

I won't win the prize for the thinnest slices, but I got 13 slices out of a can. I usually get 8-10. I only tried to get one or two really thin. This was the thinnest:

I fried the Spam and the egg in butter, of course.

The Spam is just lightly browned, and the bread is toasted. There is a slice of sharp cheddar cheese under the egg, and the red stuff is Tabasco sauce. Served with Lay's potato chips (original, with all the salt I'm entitled to), and a Mexican beer.

Man.... that looks GOOD. Maybe add some guacamole... mmmmmm.

Peoiple, people, people. Spam is NOT food. It is a food-like product much like soylent green. If you can afford to play with these beautiful GEC forum knives surely you can afford some real food.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I have a friend from Mexico, another from Scandinavia, and I grew up eating kosher. We three used to sit around over snacks & beer and the conversation would go to the familiar topic. I call it: "The food I ate as a child is wonderful and the food you grew up with is weird and disgusting." :p

I tried the SPAM. I don't like it, but I don't judge anyone who does. Many of you guys might not care for a breakfast of pickled herring, but I know that it's the best thing next to a toasted bagel & cream cheese! :D:thumbsup:
