Spot revisited

So far, I am very impressed with the SWICK! I was a tad worried about the tip being too thin, but have had no problems with it so far. I just hope the sheath is as good as the knife. (read my earlier posts about my sheath ideas in this thread)

Man, this thing has a phenomenal edge! It really cuts well. I'll keep you all posted.

RLR or Sal,
Could one of you post a link in the Spyderco website Forums to this Thread? I read a post on there about this design not being made to 'cut meat or apples'.

Just an update. The SWICK is still going strong. I've used this knife every chance that I've had. If I had a sheath, this blade would be my EDC. It is the most well-rounded design of its kind that I've used. If anyone has any suggestions for cutting tests, let me know (and be reasonable; it isn't a bowie ;) )! Be well, all.

It's nice to see the SPOT evolve into a SWICK before our eyes. The only thing I would do is be sure that the finger hole is a bit larger in the SWICK, akin to the SPOT. That may also allow a bit more width in the blade, or demand it for ergonomic cutting purposes as it may cause the curved area to enlarge to accomodate the hole. However, smaller fingers can adapt to a bit larger opening for manipulation with virtually no notice, but a larger finger can do nothing about a smaller hole and it may sacrifice grip security and ergonomics. But I'd have to hold it myself to be sure. The SPOT finger hole works well for me in forward or reverse with a complete grip, not merely the end of the finger (I do have large hands). It is definitly necessary to have a tight grip on a small blade and handle configuration when meeting resistance.

Great little tools with incredible MBC potential. Very nice design and implementation of a terrifically useful knife. I'm on my second SPOT now having received it direct order from Spyderco last week. The SWICK does appear to be an improvement indeed. I'll certainly be ordering one, or two, if the finger hole is enlarged to the dimensions of the SPOT without even handling it.

I looked at the pics that were linked to the Spyderco website.....

What I really liked was that the grip size and shape were identical to the SPOT.

What I wasn't as keen on, as this has been mentioned already, was that the hole appears to be too small. I could probably get in there quite easily with my mid sized paws, but it's going to be a squeeze and there are others out there with banana-sized fingers (no flames intended). The blade could have been slightly longer, but appears to be acceptable.

Where can i sign up? How long till these hit the shelves? ;)

I've been carrying my Black SPOT as EDC for two months now, so believe me when i tell you that i really like these knives. The micarta handled version is a bit thicker so i don't carry it as often. Last week i was waiting for my wife outside the office building that i work in. It was already dark and there were plenty of people lurking about. I knew she would be there soon, but i felt uncomfortable seeing that i was being noticed. Stepped back into the shadows and drew the SPOT, keeping my arms folded with the knife in my right hand fist and resting against a black jersey (top) so it was well camouflaged, then stepped out of the shadows. I never needed to use it, so what is the point of this whole story? While standing there for 15 minutes and feeling jittery, my hands start to sweat a little and the knife starts feeling a bit slick in the hand. The grooves above the finger hole sure help a lot, but it would be nice if you could consider something thin and coarse like skateboard tape on the side of the skeletonized handle.

try cutting 1/4" bamboo, since it is pretty tough. my millie can do it and so it would be interesting to see if the swick can do it, too.

I am all excited about this knife :D

Ookami

Ookami, I haven't tried bamboo. I'm telling you, this knife is the best fixed edc I've owned. I sure hope it makes it to the production phase so others can see what I mean.

Well, the SWICK is still holding up amazingly! I made a little carry pouch out of some old shoe leather, so I can carry it on more of a regular basis. If anyone has any tests they could suggest, I'd love to hear them!

Still holding up nicely? Any new thoughts other than that mentioned in the sheath thread? I'm still hoping this comes to fruition. I need one!

Still going strong, Dave! I honestly can't say enough about this knife. It is easily the best low-profile/neck/fixed EDC I have owned. I love this design!
