Spring 2015 Becker (East) Gathering - May 1-3 - Now With Pictures!

Damn. You finally put it together. :D

I'm a little slow on the uptake, but not quite as dumb as I look

did I get my order in for bacon rapped water chestnuts yet? :D

You started "casually mentioning" that before the last batch was even gone, several months ago... :D

Ahhh. Good idea! I've got a bar of Aldo's 1084 in 5/32" that could also be for public consumption.

Go for it, there will be experienced and talented knifemakers there to help you. Also, me. :o

I don't have all the materials together for a full-on Grind-In this year, but I can bring some belts and stuff, and help out if anyone wants to bring along whatever steel and knife-related projects they have going on. :)

Alright! All the feedback from the west coast has me all giddy! We doin a head count or final supplies bring along list or anything? How do we go about obtaining the final directions, GPS coordinates? Lol.
We plan on leaving as early that Friday morn as soon as we can drag ourselves out of bed. This week I plan on stocking up on yuengling and searching for that hot root beer for Vic. My chickens have been blasting out eggs so I'll have at least 36, I can bring plenty more if needed, I get about 6/day.

It's A two day trip for me when I travel solo. Leaving about 5AM Wednesday, overnight near Nashville, stop for final groceries near Vonore and arrive Thursday whenever. Tenting. Can't wait. I'll have a couple of completed knives and may be one or two still in progress. I had hoped to have more completed but other priorities have intervened. :)

Other than the usual stuff, is there anything particular I need to bring this year to be prepared for what we'll be doing?

Turns out I will not be there Thursday like I usually am. But I will be along Friday. My 10 year old son will be with me, (he is excited) his mother and I didn't want him missing two days of school. Also, Thursday my daughter has a field trip she asked me to go on. So, driving to Vonore isn't going to happen till Friday morning. So, should see you all around lunch or so.

See you then! This should be a lot of fun. Jared is going to have a blast.

I will definitely have to talk to you about that; Angie is itching to raise a couple laying hens...

Thanks James, I still am not content with my plunge lines and name stamping.

On that note, just got these together for the trip. 36 of Rougemont's finest!

In other homestead news, when going out to gather eggs this evening my broody hen was finally out of her nest with 10, yes 10 chicks! That more than doubles my flock! Just crossing my fingers for lots of females lol.

This is our 4th year so yeah, we'll chat. Chickens are easy.

Speaking of chickens, one of ours decided it needed more adventure in it's life, so it took off across the road to grandma's house, and was last seen crossing the hill on it's way to who knows where. After a long search, still no chicken. A fox will probably get it tonight, but nothing we can do about it. Pics in the Snark later.

Aww bummer. Best time to search is at night. You prob already know that you can walk right up and grab them when they're asleep or roosting for the night. Mine always go back in their run at dusk. That's one of the advantages of having a rooster, mine always rounds them up. As much of an aggressive a-hole that he is, he's only still alive because he watches out for the ladies. One decided to jump the fence in the back yard and he jumped in and got between her and the dog as I was coming around the corner and saw what was goin on. He earned his keep there.

Yeah, but we searched right at dusk when they should be nesting, and 5 minutes before that grandma saw it going over the hill. It may have even headed onto the neighboring property, it which case, it's done for. We've got two roosters, and they round up the chickens, but this one just slipped off somehow. It's done it three times already, but we always either caught it or it came back on it's own. The other day we found it over half a mile away on this side of the road!

Yup, sometimes ya just gotta letem go. I had one that kept eating eggs so I let her "free range" so she wouldn't pass along her bad habits. Was hoping she'd just disappear one night but she stuck around and roosted high. After a few weeks away from the coop I guess she forgot about eating eggs. Making her forage on her own. She's still here and off the eggs.
