Spring 2015 Becker (East) Gathering - May 1-3 - Now With Pictures!

it is actually looking more and more like i'm going to make it down for this. please hold your applause....

So. Any of you guys wanna be a sport and fork out a ticket from Brisbane to LA then from there to somewhere close enough for me to hitchhike to the Boss' place? I'll just make a shelter in the woods and I won't eat anything I promise. I just wanna hang out. Actually, better make that two tickets. Gassy will want to come too..

Seriously though, have fun everybody. Wish I could be there with you all. You need some representation from your crazy Aussie cousins..

Say hi to Uncle E for me!

Only if Gassy brings his mutt, and it'll be a one way ticket. Better yet, lets just take this party down under in December!

Haha :D I could probably get you as many Vomit Bombs as you want Murph!

And Slice, if you guys can put up with the stinking sweat box of a mozzie cloud that is Australia in December then absolutely, come on over! We'll meet you up at the Kakadu. I just hope that the idea of 25ft shark eating crocs don't put you off!

Hmmm, I'll bring a 9 and a 4 and pray I make it thru customs. Hopefully I'll get swallowed whole and cut my self out Chuck Norris style! Save me a Vegimite sammich!

Haha you rock Slice! But you're at an unfair advantage having prolly practiced on all dem gators and such..
Customs would just look at you and go "that's not a knoife.. oh, hang on, yes it is. Proceed".. And as for the Vegemite sangers, if you eat one you'll be the first American I'll know that has ever ventured further past "gawd, that stuff looks like axle grease!".

But dang I wish I could go back to the States again but this time to come to a gathering with all you fine folks. Oh well, maybe one day..

I'm in. One fat guy swinging (assuming this weekend's test hang goes well).

Probably bring a couple gallons of OJ and some beer for public consumption. Will there be access to potable water at the camp or should I bring a case?

Also, what else needs brought?

Looking forward to finally meeting you folks.

I'll be there probably around 8PM Friday night. Hammock.

Cool! I'm looking forward to seeing you again. :)

I'm glad to hear that you're gonna be there, Cooper. You will have a blast. Please bring those knives you got from me, so I can see how they've held up and give 'em a touch-up if they need it.

Re: water - There's no well up on the mountain as far as I know; each time I've been there there has been bottled water provided (by Ethan?) More bottled water is always welcome, of course.

Just bring whatever food/beverage items you enjoy and would like to share. Staples like eggs, cheese, bacon, sausage, taters, onions, mushrooms etc will be welcomed... the breakfasts on Becker Mountain are legendary.

Local/regional/homemade stuff goes over very well! I've seen these lunatics get down on everything from homemade pickles and hot sauce to boudin "imported" from TX or LA (I forget which) to snails that Dex picked up somewhere along the way. They're an adventurous group... and they ain't scared to try something new ;)

(I'm pretty well convinced that the only reason I keep getting invited back is, Angie always sends homemade snacks along with me... kinda like when I was a kid and Mom would tie a pork-chop around my neck so the neighborhood dogs would play with me :D )

Definitely bring all of your cutting implements and survival/camping gear that you can carry. Everyone there likes to check that stuff out, and compare and discuss.

Most importantly, bring your ideas, your thoughts, your stories, your questions and your answers. :) Also, a camera.

Thanks for the response JT. I am ashamed to say that I haven't used the little trailing point hardly at all, but I use the kitchen knife for basically every meal I prepare and I do have a couple questions about it. I will be sure to bring both of them along with knives from fellow Beckerheads and other makers.

If the morel season is cranking in a couple weeks, I may be able to bring some to fry up.

did I get my order in for bacon rapped water chestnuts yet? :D

cooper - bring a piece of steel if you have a design you want to try making reality.
with luck I will have a functional portable propane forge at this one, so HT will be a definite possibility for simple steels.

Ahhh. Good idea! I've got a bar of Aldo's 1084 in 5/32" that could also be for public consumption.

I'm in, and I think I'm driving the truck this year, so a cooler of beer will follow me this time for public consumption.
