Spring into Spring with a "Barlow a Day for Thirty Days"

Day 30

It’s been a fast thirty days, but I’ve enjoyed keeping this little 14 on me.

Also, I’ve enjoyed watching everyone’s pictures. Thanks Primble Primble for orchestrating the whole thing!

Two dimes and two nickels says it must be Day XXX. First order of business is to thank everyone who took the time to participate. Everyone who finished the challenge will be getting their diplomas. I enjoyed the ride, from start to finish ! 😊

For the last day, my old Remington Granddaddy Barlow arrived a day early ( yesterday ).🍀 I spent about three hours cleaning it up to my satisfaction ( at least for now ), which including dulling down what appeared to be a quick coat of shine it up metal polish somebody 🤬 decided to add over the old natural patina and age spots.:( My thoughts, while doing so was .... a granddad ought to look like a granddad and have some aging or age spots on it ( like me ). The bone was all I hoped for and was pretty sure going to be.😍 So I guess you could say I cleaned it, but, carefully as to not lose much of it's earned aging spots. Lastly, I forced a patina on the big long blade ( over the earned patina ) and carefully rubbed most of it off, to achieve a nicely greyed smooth patina. This old grandaddy is quite the loud walker and talker. I hope you'll like it as much as I do.🤔

I'll add my old Remington Barlow ( which I acquired about 15 years ago ) to my watch pocket and tote old Granddaddy in my horizontal belt sheath. To my surprise, the old granddaddy was purchased online and the return label was from a town not more than 20 miles from where I live.

Well, we were all going to be carrying a traditional knife every day anyway. It's not like it was that much of an inconvenience to carry a Barlow instead of a stockman for 30 days. :)

Day 30:
I don't own toooo many barlows. But, it seemed appropriate today to post the ones I do own! From newest (on top) to oldest (on bottom).

Rosecraft Beaver Creek Barlow
Rough Ryder Reserve Original Brown Micarta Barlow
GEC 141122 Goldenrod Sawcut Bone
1980 Case Barlow A62009 1/2 in Appaloosa Bone
1970 Case Barlow 62009 1/2 in Red Sawcut Bone
Schrade Cut Co Barlow in Sawcut Bone

I didn't have to. But, I decided to carry my 1970 Case Barlow throughout this entire challenge. And, I will carry it again today! I like this barlow quite a bit as it was the first knife I'd ever tightened up in a vise; peening the pin and sanding flush afterwards. It is definitely my own and was a pleasure to carry over the last month.

Well... this has been quite fun! Thanks a bunch to Primble Primble for coming up with the idea and everyone else for participating!!

Is it Day 30 already?
It has been a joy seeing all these beautiful barlows everyday. I've learned that I really like Barlows, more so than I realized and I already have a couple more on order. Thanks to our host Primble Primble and thanks to everyone that participated here, good luck to all! 🍀

Day 30:

At the start of the challenge, these daffodils were barely peeking through the soil.

Day 28 & 29: I hope it was a happy Tuesday for y’all!

You know what? I own a handful of Camillus knives and none of them actually say Camillus. LOL! There are a lot of similarities between these two brothers separated by a few decades.

I also have a handful of Camillus knives, but this one is actually badged as Camillus. It's really grown on me this month. I see some definite similarities with your yellow Buck.

I discovered a few things. 1) A thirty-day challenge is more difficult than I originally expected. Carrying a Barlow every day is easy, posting daily, not so easy.

Ditto. The daily posting was the biggest challenge for me. I have a knife in my pocket anyway, and carrying a Barlow wasn't difficult. It's a great pattern. Remembering to snap a photo and post it was trickier.

Day 30!!!

To finish off, here is my HHB in my pocket today, in a sleeve...and, nope, I won't be using this to cut anything today...I have too many other knives for that 😁

Thank you Primble Primble for this opportunity! It gave me a chance to pull out the knives that don't see too much light...it also gave me a chance to keep my mind off any GEC knives (except in the exchange)...so much focus and attention on GECs these days...

Congrats to all who made it faithfully for 30 days!!
I carried Barlows but was remiss in posting, but admire the perseverance shown here!!!

I told Tom to put you on the eligible for a prize list and Tom said "He ain't keeping up" !
I told Tom again to put you on the prize list and I said " Don't you know that he carry's that "old Boiley Barlow" with his initials carved in the bone every single day ?"
Tom says "He ain't doing it right" ! 🤬
Tom thinks for a few minutes and asks " you mean he carved his initials in it "?!!! 🤔 OK ....... right away boss !🤣

Aw man! I only bought my very first Barlow last year and it didn't see much action yet, but I do absolutely love it!
It was reduced from 120€ down to 60€uro, because it had some imperfections, but that was alright with me.
I just saw this thread a couple of days ago, and since I only own one Barlow I will post a bunch of pictures of it to try and show it off. I hope I didn't make too many and I hope you can see everything well enough!
Oh, and it's called Integral Canvas Micarta Barlow Black, by Böker Solingen (handmade).
Really loving its ultra light weight with that integral Micarta construction!

I like to pair it with my Urban Trapper, by Böker Plus; but the two-hand-opening backlock version; for German legal carry. Really starting to dig those Trappers and Barlows lately! 😊

Greetings from Germany!

Very kind of Tom!! And I appreciate the recognition!! But the faithful posters deserve it more than I do!!
Please keep me off the list!

Day 30!

Let it never be said that I don't know what I like!

This challenge has been amazing! I've seen metric boat-loads of beautiful barlows I never even knew existed and learned that, if there were any doubt before, that I do indeed have a particular affinity for a specific example! Thank you, Primble Primble !

Rarely seen (even by me!), and even more rarely photographed (this is actually the first time) - I present the backups to my favorite barlow, nay - favorite traditional knife, of them all (at least for now 🤣)!

Some may accuse these two (above) of being "safe queens," but to that point, I'd disagree. Number one, I have no safe. Number two, If anything unfortunate were to befall the 2022 GEC-made Remington Granddaddy Barlow (below) you've all become familiar with - one of these would immediately step up to fill the role!

So, it's more of a dynasty than a simple monarchy, and thus, the term "Queen" doesn't really seem fitting. If you must attribute a title, make it "unsafe warrior empresses" or something like that!

It's been loads of fun and I'm grateful to everyone who took the time to show off their prized barlows! Thank you, thank you, thank you all! 😍

-

P.s. - When I was choosing which of the three to make my first user, I selected what I considered to be the most flawed of the bunch, so, in my opinion, the other two are even better than the one you've been seeing regularly! The flaws, if you can call them that, are a natural occlusion in the bone near the mark side cover pin (at first I thought it might've been a crack, but was, fortunately, wrong) and very light sawcutting on the mark side as well. Additionally, during its first week of carry, it fell off my lap and impacted the edge of a clay flower pot directly on its pivot pin! 😱 That sealed the deal for it as a hard user!
