Spyderco Bodacious - The Greatest Knife to Ever Cut

I'm just confused why the Military is less money with a larger blade. Same exact materials.

Sometimes Spyderco decides to make less on certain models. Manix 2 and now the Military 2 it seems. They are the loss leaders. It makes them more affordable for service members.

I ordered it! 💕

Now the dreaded wait for an arriving package begins :( luckily I work as a postman, so I'll have it as soon as it reaches our station and don't have to wait for our postman to deliver it 😂

I'm so very excited 😆 😆 😆

Edit: and of course, as you do, I was just browsing m dealers website and lo and behold, the Bodacious went on sale 🙄

248€ now instead of the 278€ I paid, but it's okay

So, it has arrived today, finally, and I'm just in awe at how beautiful this blue handle is! And how good it feels in the hand!

Somehow, I was convinced that this would be a Taiwan Spyderco, no idea why I thought that, so I was pleasantly surprised when I read Golden on the blade, because it came drop-shutty, amazingly sharp and very well executed :)

Thanx to all for your comments. It is appreciated.

Thank you for all these wonderful knives we get to enjoy! And thanks for all your stories and insights and comments, it's always a delight to see you've posted something.

So, back to the Bodacious, first full day of using it at work and home, I'm completely in love 😘 😘

After almost a month of carrying and using the Bodacious every day, I've taken it apart today for the first time, and I'm even more impressed. Seems to me, it has even fewer parts than my Sage 5, and it seems to me, the action is not dependent on how much or not you tighten the pivot screws, it's just great whatever you do. The knife whlent back together with no problems, no tuning, was perfectly centered and spydie-flicked open and dropped shut just like before, and I wasn't even careful when tightening.

Amazing knife, I really recommend anyone who doesn't yet have one but thinks about it, get one as soon as possible, you will definitely not regret it. It's only the third Spydie in my possession (Sage 5LW and Manix 2XL being the other two, only counting folders), but definitely the best one in my opinion.

Love the Bodacious and you are right it’s a great knife, aesthetically and in use.
As this is your third Spyder, I would like you to know this is how it feels every time you buy a new one ha ha .

I'd have to handle one first, plus they'd have to put a real peel ply G10 on it, and a better blade steel. Not paying $240 for s30v in 2025. The Shaman was a total failure for me, handle poorly shaped for retention, slick G10 slabs, and I was not a fan of the choil impacting the users finger pushing it off the lock bar during closing. It's also very poorly balanced. I dropped that knife more in a year than all my other folders over 30 years combined.

The handle seems really "tall" to me without much contouring, seems like it would feel blocky. The Manix XL has a really tall handle as well but it has way more contouring for retention.

Good enough that I bought two, but I did not pay the high retail price. One has Rockscale Ti scales and the other has AWT blemished scales. Both excellent scales.

Lucky for you, there's a model available now in SPY27.

From what little I looked into it Spy27 is basically the same as s30/s35 with a bit more toughness but less edge retention, so yeah definitely no sale there either for my uses :)

I'm sure eventually the bodacious will get lots of different steel offerings. S30V is not obsolete and anyone that has actually used a Spyderco S30V blade knows it is a high performer

Hi ToddM.

Sorry for your disappointment on the Shaman and your questioning SPY27. The Shaman is one of our best selling models, as is the Bodacious. Mostly for positive response to all of the things that you found wrong with yours. And SPY27 is getting many very positive reviews. Perhaps Spyderco models are just not for you?

No offense intended to anyone, but whenever I see a thread saying something is the best ever I think of this clip.

FWIW - S30V and S35VN are favorites of mine. Some of the easiest, most user friendly steels to live with day to day as far as using, maintaining and sharpening. Then again, I love "boring" VG-10 a whole lot too, so maybe I'm just a man out of his time. :)
