Spyderco Bodacious - The Greatest Knife to Ever Cut

Hi ToddM.

Sorry for your disappointment on the Shaman and your questioning SPY27. The Shaman is one of our best selling models, as is the Bodacious. Mostly for positive response to all of the things that you found wrong with yours. And SPY27 is getting many very positive reviews. Perhaps Spyderco models are just not for you?

sal

No need to be sorry Sal! Not every knife or blade shape or steel works for everyone. I'm a huge fan of the Manix, PM2, Smock etc. in fact I have more PM2's than any other knife and it's not even close. It's the same for handles, I prefer grippy textured handles but it's very clear that the last few years smooth slippery handles in titanium, aluminum, and smooth G10 are what is more popular in the market place. Can't really fault manufacturers for marketing what is selling to the majority.

I don't dislike s30v/s35v lots of good steels have their place depending on your use case and wants. In folding knives I prefer steels that really hold an edge, because with the amazing sharpening tools we have these days they are still silly easy to maintain and for my cutting use I don't see edge damage to things like s90v, 20cv, 204p etc. Same reason I prefer blades that have at thinner profile and are better slicers, that's what works for my cutting needs.

Also, the S30V bodacious can be had new for $191.25 to your door from an authorized bladeforum dealer so $240 is inaccurate.
I'm sure someone is selling them for that, or for MAP holidays, but a quick search of 10 shops (that we've probably all heard of) for the black blade model were all $240, and satin at $225

Here is a comparison between a Bodacious, Sage 5 LW and Manix 2 XL, for those that are curious

The Bodacious is the newest addition to my humble collection, but it has kicked both the others out of my pocket. :)

Closest to the Benchmade Bugout in regard of “pleasing for the eye” design!
I agree, his choice in scales with the black blade looks absolutely stunning! The Bodacious is a really good looking knife overall in my opinion :)

Although the Native 5 comes close as well. Lovely design! Timeless like the Bodacious and the Benchmade Bugout. ( and the Buck 110 and the Victorinox knives and …. Etc…)

Not suprising, since the Bodacious is an evolution of the Native design, I believe? The Native just never spoke to me, because of the lockback design, I find the compression lock to be a better all-around lock, fidgetability be damned, I think the CL is one of the best locks ever conceived and put in a knife. Also, a the biggest plus point of the Bodacious is it's choil-less design, something that I really dislike about my other Spydercos. A choil is in my opinion a much better solution than what Benchmade and others are doing, not wasting space between handle and edge, but ever since I first saw the Bodacious, I knew it'd be the best possible Spyderco for me :)

Have you had any luck in finding a Native 5 Magnacut?

Nope…. Will take I while I am afraid!

I'm really liking the look of the manix xl these days. It really does have a lot of extra handle real estate compared to the bodacious with no extra cutting edge but it just looks so mean I may have to add one

It is an amazing knife, as you say, lots of handle to hold onto and because of the jimping it sits really secure in your hand, the tall blade coupled with it's 3mm spine thickness makes for an amazing cutter, which I didn't expect for a knife this size, while still being very well suited for harder work. I also really like it's lock, the CBBL, for being ambidextrous and incredibly strong!

Too bad, would've loved to read your reply :(
I originally said I thought that you were wrong because the Native was designed by Eric. I was completely wrong and am not sure why I thought that was the case. Sorry about that
