Agreed. The OP asked a question and the community showed up answered it.
There's no need to read into it any further or make claims that members are bashing Spyderco.
Special thanks to 5.56 and CrimsonTideShooter for running this one downfield. It often troubles me how these forums try to shut down any perceived negativity, even to the exclusion of facts. The so-called drama that many seem to loathe may at times be the only way a little-known fact becomes common knowledge. Knowledge is power, power to the community!
Thanks , Ken !
To all , because the questions were asked we now are better informed than ever about Spyderco CF scales ,
I did some searches here and on the official Spyderco forum , plus some other forums + youtube, and as far as I could gather this subject has been discussed/speculated about several times over a couple of years but never before fully explained , that has now changed and the future catalogs will now contain the info on the matter as well , so I would like to say thanks to OP for starting the thread that led to more information for the fans & the non-fans & those in between.
I would also like to thank Sal for sharing the information with us.

PS this thread will be a reference thread for future discussion , trust me on this , I am from the future.

Nope, I see the bevel, it's beveled g10. The cf layer is literally just the very outside layer, about the thickness of a sheet of paper.
I for one, have owned the Sage and GB since their release. I've carried and used both knives over the last couple of years and have no complaints. I don't care if it is solid CF, CF Laminate, or petrified unicorn horn composite. Sal, there is no need to sweat this. Some folks would complain if they were hung with a brand new rope.![]()
You won't have a problem. CF and G-10 is about as tough as it gets, nothing you mention will ever hurt it.
I'm mostly with you, but...
First, there is an issue about labeling. In the context of how Spyderco and Sal operate, I give them the benefit of the doubt.
Second, there is another issue that I guess might be more important. I've dropped and chipped the scales on my GB and it didn't delaminate, but there's a photo somewhere up above of one that did delaminate, which would absolutely not happen if the scales were solid. So, there is a serviceability/durability issue here, I think.
Another +1:thumbup:
This is a wrap, so please no more bashing of other forum members. Thanks.
edit- Steel 130, a +1 to your post as well.
Thanks , Ken !

My only concern with the laminated CF is how it would react to oil, grease, brake fluid, brake clean, transmission fluid etc. Being a mechanic this is important. I have had the knife for months and I have had no problems so far.

I am neither fanboy nor hater/basher...I do think there's an issue raised by the photo of the delaminated scale. See my post just above.
^All this. All these members who show up and say "guess what, don't care" thats great, but not relevant. If you read the first few pages, clearly this needed to be hashed out, and the apparent "anti-resolution" tack in this thread seems odd to me. The knowledge of whether or not the scales are full CF or a single layer of CF so far NOBODY has said would change their opinion on whether or not they'd buy/want to own the knife. That doesn't mean that it wasn't something worth pursuing, knowledge is almost without exception worth pursuing, and the fact that the scrutiny makes some people uncomfortable I don't think is as much a reflection as us the pursuers as those who feel "persecuted." Its not a witch hunt, nobody is being burned at the stake, but I take offense at the notion that knowledge and truth somehow don't matter. Is that fair?

^All this.
Once again, I think Spyderco has done everything they can to solve the problem. If you still don't like it, Sal has given you the option to send in the knife and have a refund/replacement. In the future, these knives will be clearly marked. I think that covers everything and satisfies everyone.
