Spyderco CPM S110V MIlitary Full Review

My S110V Military arrived yesterday, first Millie. Immediately I noticed how light it was for the size. 121 grams on my scale, that's amazing for the size. The knife feels good in hand. Did a little cutting, so far so good. I'm keen to give it a workout.

Glad to see you got it, looking forward to hearing what your thoughts are after giving it a workout.

I wanted to post this here, Jim, as there has been speculation concerning the relative ht of the various Spyderco models in S110V. Will quote the response that I received from Spyderco...
"Thank you for contacting us with your question.

Our heat treating processes are based on the Steel being used, rather than the model of knife. As a result all of the S110V steel used in our knives will be heat treated to the same standard.

Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

That's correct.

The Military is 63-64 HRC from the info that I have so I would except the others to be the same like the PARA 2 and Manix 2 (Blurple)

Your review has me looking at one of these now:thumbup:, and I definitely don't need another Millie.

Out of curiosity...do you sand your pivot screws down...?... or maybe it's just the picture lighting. Wouldn't think the pivot to be a hot spot, but you do a lot of cutting.

Thanks for the test & review.

No, haven't done anything to the screws.

If I may ask, would this same performance be expected of the PM2 in S110v? I like the Military, but I've always enjoyed the PM2 shape a tad more. It would be wild to have this level of cutting performance in a PM2.

According to the info above from Spyderco, they should have the same performance.

I would expect all S110V models produced 6/2016 or later to have the same heat treat as the military.

I bought the para 2 in the S110V . . . I just prefer the slightly smaller size. The G10 covers are certainly eye-catching, more a violet color than blue, and very grippy as well. Great knife, thanks so much for the review, Jim.

Is the Blue G-10 on the Military's less transparent than the Blue on the Paramilitaries? Looks like a different color Blue in all the pics I've seen. Looks less Purple.

Jim, so far so good! I will let you know after more use and when I put it on my SiC stone.

Quiet, it has to be the sharpest Spyderco out of box to date and I've owed a lot. Really nice edge, and are the new changes are a bonus.

Have fun. :D

This is a GREAT thread, but I also hate it, too, because now you have me wanting an S110V Millie! This great has gotten me into really paying more attention to, and again carrying and using, my S30V Millie. I've been carrying my large Insingo since last year, but for the time being I'm back into the Millie, in fact more than I ever was before, if that makes any sense.

At first, I was a bit concerned about the hardness of the S110V, but it seems from earlier posts that it should be maintainable with a Sharpmaker (my only current sharpening system).

Jim

I just received mine, and it's screaming sharp in typical Spyderco fashion. Excellent fit and finish, what can I say? Looks like another winner!

Oh yeah, I think you will love it, use the heck out of it. :D

Absolutely. I only have one or two other knives which are as sharp as this one, and neither of those are out-of-the-box edges, that's for sure!

That is my plan, this thread and your test battery sold me this knife, so thank you for taking the time to do it. I know you tested a Military, but literally the day I found this thread, the NIB PM2 I grabbed showed up on the Exchange, and so I snapped it up. I haven't had a PM2 in awhile, I'd forgotten how nice they are. Thanks again for taking the time to post this up.

Yeah they are nice, a little short for me, but the geometry and feel is still there. :)
