Spyderco for wife------what model?

If one-hand opening isn't needed or desired, and if a last-ditch self defense blade isn't a major consideration, what's wrong with one of the iterations of the Roadie? No replaceable scales of course, but you do have a choice of colors. As a plus, the blunt bladed Roadie is as alarming to most people as a common butter knife.

That may be the case for some women, but NOT me. I usually EDC a Strider SnG. I would NOT love a pink Native.
Just because YOUR fiance like a light & pink knife, do NOT class the rest of us, with her. YES, THAT irritates me.

TKC, I never meant that, sorry. If you read a few of my later posts I try to explain. Again, sorry :)

I'm not sure where all the anger is coming from. I suppose I could have worded my response better but assuming I think we can bunch all women together is well... assuming.

The Delica/Endura is a unisex thing. Whenever someone asks me what 'good' knife to get someone, regardless of gender, I tell them to get a Delica or an Endura. They are ridiculously light, ridiculously ergonomic, ridiculously good value for cost, and they come in a wide variety of colors. I've owned a lot of knives that are better in one way or another, but I honestly am not sure I could come up with a better value than a FFG Delica/Endura. That'd cover 100% of the knife-related needs for 99% of the population and 99% of the knife-related needs for the other 1%.

I will def have a look a these models too. Thanks for the feedback!!!

I want a model where I can put some aftermarket scales on it if possible.

OP - my wife said the FRN handles look cheap. Just want to share in case your lady has the same feeling.

I can tell you what my wife did. She had a Mini-Griptilian that opened in her purse so she did not want to carry it any longer. She saw one of my Dragonflies and she confiscated it for her own. Then, she petitioned Sal for purple and he said, "I'll see what I can do." Now she has a purple one as well. She loves the DF FRN. It is small, light, and fits in her near non-existant pockets and in her tiny purse, too.

If a larger knife is desired I would look at a Delica or Salt as they are still slim.

I never claimed that all women were like mine.

Actually, that is precisely what you did when you posted

... So yes a woman's EDC would be different than a man's.

...

Perhaps you meant "could" (which expresses conditionality) rather than "would." But we can only go from what you post, not what you intend.

Could or may a woman prefer a different EDC than a man? Could she prefer a pink sparkly one? Of course...nobody is arguing against that point.

Would she? Not necessarily. But that is the claim you made.

Which is my point from the start. Over and over in these "What knife should I get for my wife/girlfriend/daughter/etc" threads opened by clearly knowledgeable members, folks immediately jump in with the "Get her a pink one!" responses.

Like the most important thing for women is that knives be pink and shiny.

Hopefully TKC and FelineGirl have changed a few minds finally.

They seem to carry the same knives guys do!!! Inconceivable! :D

You are correct sir. I did use the wrong word. Thanks for setting me straight :)

Another vote for the DF2. My wife liked my HAP40 version so much that it "converted" her away from her knife skepticism, and she carries a ZDP-189 one now and gets a lot of use out of it. You could get the lined version if you want to get scales for it, but my wife actually really likes the light weight but firm textured grip of the FRN (as well as the BRG color).

Sometimes it's a challenge to communicate via text, email, and in online communities. Things like tone and facial expressions cannot be conveyed. And one has to be careful about wording to make sure that ideas are construed correctly. I feel that Kniferbro has apologized and corrected his statement. I do not think he meant to offend anyone. I usually like to assume the best of someone in an online community, unless they have proven to me otherwise over time. I think that Kniferbro misspoke, and I take no offense. Even if he did believe that all women like pink sparkly knives, he sure knows otherwise now! [emoji5]

Back to topic. After having thought about it a bit more, I think that a Delica or Dragonfly are my favorite suggestions. Out of the two, I think the Delica is the winner. And so many colors from which to choose! I love my blue Delica. [emoji4] I absolutely love everything about it and find no fault with it. I would highly recommend a Delica to anyone.

Perhaps one of the problems with the "What knife for the wife?" question is that the OP didn't tell us anything except that she is a woman. That may be what leads to the "Get her a cute little knife in pretty colors." answers.

What sort of things will she use the knife for? Does she work in an office or on a farm? Will she carry it in a pocket or in a purse? Does she have small hands? Do you think she wants or needs a locking knife?

That being said: Chaparral. It's small without being miniature, classy black carbon fiber goes with any outfit, and is tough enough for most chores.

You never know. Sometimes going with the opposite to what the majority think or suggest may have a surprising effect. How about a Cold Steel Espada XL with polished g10?

Nailed it. Sorta goes both ways in these threads, the OPs and respondents often assume only pretty and shiny matter.

Its why I suggested early on getting the same knife the OP would get for himself.

I have two ladies, one likes knives and one only uses them. The one who only uses knives, likes the Spyderco Q flag version. It's in her purse 100% of the time.

The other lady likes knives, especially the Delica (combo edge black handle) the best, but has a passion for the the Lum (green handle) and the Matriarch. When given a choice of any knife in my collection as a present for a special occasion, she chose the Matriarch for protection. She carries it.

THe knife lover has one pink handled knife, a little BladeTech Patel (designed by Tim Wegner) which is based upon his mouse which was once a Spyderco. She likes the knife in pink, because it's small and unobtrusive. She finds that pulling out a Delica or Lum can gain some attention. Nobody knows she has the Matriarch unless she needs it :)

Chaparral is a good knife but it's black unless you get a more expensive version. Ladies usually like colorful objects. The frn scales come in a great variety of colors and don't have to be pink. They are cool and feel great.

You made excellent points, esp about getting something for her that he'd buy himself.

As an example, my daughters and my ex like all of my knives and would happily claim them if I allowed it. They also like knives that don't interest me, none of which are sparkly or pink.
