As well he should. I expect all whom offend me to renew their apologies every 3 years. Otherwise I shall tweet at them angrily from anonymous twitter accounts until they can no longer enjoy the platform. It's a public service as much as it's petty revenge.
 
I'm a big fan of showing your significant other go through your collection and let them find something they like. Then you'll have a better idea of what makes them happy.

I'm not huge on the idea of picking a girly knife for women. In my experience, women like similar knives as men do. My GF took a couple of my knives I bought for me, and she's happy with them.
 
I bought my wife a Spyderco ladybug tattoo to use to sharpen those lip liner and eyeliner pencils. The blade is thin enough with a full flat grind to not break the soft core of the pencil. Also for those loose threads.

FWIW, my ex carried a pink Kershaw shuffle. Cheap but handy. Her family are big drinkers, functioning alcoholics if you will, so it was perfect.
 
Mine has a Mantra 2, which I had cerakoted purple...I liked it enough that I repeated the process for myself (had the blade on mine acid etched & stonewashed, mainly so they were easy to tell apart).
The bonus being that, when hers needs sharpening, I just give her mine - no need to rush.
