Spyderco Manix 2 vs. Zero Tolerance 0350 ? Your thoughts please...

I vote manix 2, xl if possible. The torsion bar in the speedsafes always worry me. They can break without warning then you're sol. The manix 2 is rock solid and can be made even better with a zip tie wave.

Our ideas of SOL are pretty different. If the torsion bar breaks in a ZT0350 it just becomes a manual flipper. It has detent so that's no issue and many people actually prefer it this way. Then if you don't prefer it that way, you email ZT and you will have a new torsion bar in a week, free of charge.

I have neither knife, and prefer manual knives, but this idea that a speedsafe knife with a broken torsion bar is a useless piece metal isn't always the truth.

If you're used to the speedsafe and the blade firing out you'll be more than surprised if the torsion bar is broken. Odds are you won't be using enough force to open the blade all the way. In everyday use it wouldn't matter, but if carrying for SD it could have serious consequences. M2 with opening hole works every time, nothing to fail was my main point.

Manix 2. If you are able to carry something bigger, then Manix2 XL would be the much better choice.
The Manix 2 can be opened quickly by flicking it and can also be opened in a controlled manned since it's not spring assisted. In addition, the CBBL is very strong and reliable. Finally, the most awesome thing about the Manix 2 is the grip.

I realize others have had different results but I currently own a tremor, leek, piston, thermite, cryo, and two blurs. All except one blur have seen a good amount of opening and not one single torsion bar has broken.

Most of us will never pull a knife in self defense. Others maybe 1 or two times in a lifetime. I think worrying that the time you need your knife in a self defense situation is also going to be the one time the torsion bar breaks is a pretty bleak outlook but to each his own. Not to mention, the OP is carrying a Glock.... if he's pulling a knife in self defense he's got a lot bigger problems than torsion bars at that point.

I do see your point, but still think its a little over blown.

I haven't handled any of the Manix models, but the ZT 0350 is an awesome knife. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the 0350 to anyone. I've read a lot of good things about the Manix as well... just haven't gotten around to trying one out.

I like the full-flat ground blade available on the Manix 2, its sharper tip, and its incredible ergonomics. I still like my ZT 0350 though.

They're two very different knives. I have owned and sold a Manix 2 XL and I own an 0350TS which I love and would never sell. It's solid, excellent deployment, ergos, and a sexy coating. I would choose the 0350 if you're willing to spend more. It's way heavier but that just means that it's built like a tank.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1397370698.604381.jpg

I like them both. The 350 is a little heavy, but very solid. The Manix2 is also plenty strong. The Manix2 is somewhat easier to carry because of weight. Perhaps the 350 is more hard use. I de assisted mine. I like them both equally but for different reasons.

I tend to have a bleak outlook, tends to happen after working the street for a while :) I also carry 2 flashlights at work and one on my gun. Will my main light ever go down? Probably not, but it might... All this being said framelock > liner lock. Drop point > recurve.

My Birthday is in the near future. You guys should gift me one as I'm a new member here. :)

It may still be April, but the "First" was several wks ago. Nice try, though.
:)
Hey, I try to restrict my gifting to deployed military...who need it the most.

To return to the subject matter...I've owned both folders; sold them both. They are both excellent. Both are too heavy and heavy-duty for my casual EDC needs. A Sage 2 is about perfect for me, or CRK's (my fave). I also like Calys a lot.
I don't consider a knife as a defensive weapon, as I am NOT trained in its use. I carry a Glock or Smith for that stuff, and have been well-trained.

I know what a zip tie is, but I'm not familiar with attaching one to a knife. Please explain further...

If you're like the rest of us, you'll end up getting both eventually ;) I have a feeling the 0350 and a Glock would make a nice pair. I also recommend you purchase from one of our top notch BF dealers.

+1. Except I feel like it should be an 0350ts for punk rock points.
