SPYDERCO MANIX2 S110V - rope test & Epic Fail !

Sure! There was no need for Slava to sharpen the knife. We know about his sharpening method and following results. Now we are to discover the influence of sharpening method. I suppose.

It wouldn't have mattered if he did or or not, I still would have resharpened it anyway. :)

Will likely do something with it tomorrow as I have to cut with that PSF27 MT anyway.... :)

Well it's done, Here is my video of Slava's knife.....

200 Cuts on 5/8" Manila...

So this is becoming slava vs ankerson... slava you seem defensive. I think the tests show that there are many variables that effect cutting ability and to replicate from one person to another is impossible, possibly due to cutting styles even. How much of the edge is used each cut... and on and on...

HT seems critical to a point, as always...

Game on!

So, what is your conclusion?
200 cuts, papertest- tip is able to cut, the main blade is not.

It cut fine with the whole blade....

If not I wouldn't have posted the video at all and sent the knife to Spyderco...

Ankerson, what did you use to sharpen it? SiC stones? DMT hones have a reputation for inducing deep scratches (and thus a risk of fracture) on the edge when used with high pressure, and that's what OP used - I wonder if they simply need to use lower pressure and compensate for it with more passes?

so, your conclusion is that knife is OK?

Yes, it's fine. :)

I use SIC, I don't use diamonds....

Jim,
Looks very not bad, particularly noticeable after the ceramic.
I'm probably cut it, in the wrong direction may be...

Who knows. :)

I use SIC, I don't use diamonds....

Right, which might be why you're not seeing issues and the OP is. If they use diamonds and too much pressure, perhaps they're inducing deep scratches/gouges along the edge that they're not properly refining during the grit progression, which might lead to a weaker edge.

Dunno, I never saw the need to use them...

Well going to take the stone to it so it will have a fresh edge and send it back soon to Slava. :)

I believe this is part of it too. Diamonds leaving a toothy edge behind, where only parts of those edges are getting polished up. I'd like to see if slava could reproduce these results on what Jim uses... :)

Hey Slava,

If you don't want to pay shipping, I'll be happy to take it off your hands, they are hard to find these days... :D
