I'd say the best bang for a Buck knife is $38 for a 110.

:D

Not if you "need" to open it one handed wearing winter gloves. That's why I went Spyderco in the 80's. The 110 is a great knife, in the late 70's I added a stud to a few, that has it's place. Now, the 110 auto is the cats ass :)

Best bang for the buck knives, in my personal opinion:

- Opinel knives
- Vic SAKs
- Ontario Rat 1 & Rat 2
- Spyderco FRN knives

Those give you max performance "where the rubber meets the road" (blades & tools). You can get into the same level of steel as a Military by getting into a Native 5 LW in S35VN and save money.

Having said that, the Mil is crazy sexy cool.

Whoa whoa whoa! I know everybody loves their Spider knives. I have a couple Millies in a drawer someplace, too. My previous post was just a play on the words of the thread title "...Best Bang for Buck knife". Get it? :p

Best actual bang for the buck knives that I can think of are the Victorinox Climber, followed by the Ontario Utilitac II.

Looks like people have different definitions of bang for buck. There is jazub who only bangs Bucks, which is cool. Then there are those who prefer the SAK and Opinels, which is cool too.

To me best bang for buck means the point at which diminish returns set in. I do not think an opinel is any were near the utility of a military, same goes for a sac or a Buck for that matter. S30V or VG10 is worth allot to me. Having an easy to operate liner lock with solid, secure, safe lock-up and zero blade play are simply necessities for a passable knife.

So to those of you that have other "best bang for buck" knives, let us know what your definition of that is. And what your usage entails.

I should clarify something: I believe that Opinels and Vics are top tier values, but I do not prefer them. I own zero of the knives that I consider best performance values for the dollar.

My preferences tend to put me in the $200+ range.

I only own one Military and have recently reduced my collection.....pretty much knives I bought, never used or carried a few times. This orange Military will never be sold. Got it from a trade with a BF member in a face to face trade about 5 years ago.

I want a Military sofa-king-bad, but with rumors of an M2 on the horizon, i'm keeping some dry powder in anticipation.

My best bang for the buck is the Delica.

Yep, too much handle, it isn't proportionate to me.

I hear the proportionate issue. The main reason I'm not in to many of the smaller knives is that they don't fit my wide palms well. I didn't like the Paramilitary till recently. I didn't realize the choil was intended to be grip. I just assumed the Para was too small.
Any how they Militarys grip fits my hand perfectly, and is the most secure folder I own.

Same here. I think the grip is perfect size. I never understood this blade to handle ratio either. The handle is either too small or too large. Same with the blade. In the case of Military I think the handle is perfect. (XL Glove here btw)

I also find the mili one of the easiest handling folders when wearing bulky winter gloves. I have one in s90v in my pants pocket and one in cruwear in my carharts pocket. Tip down used to be something I avoided, but I actually prefer it in this long-bladed knife. MUCH easier for me to pull out and open with tip-down configuration, because I don't have to reach all the way down the handle to get to the opening mechanism (the hole). In any case, the entire package is so good I am willing to adjust. And as someone already noted, the mili already is a classic, and if in S30V it is a great deal too.

I like the Military and I own the Cruwear version, but it is not my favorite. I like the Para2 and Manix 2 better. I can't help but feel that the Military blade is fragile because it is thin vs. long.

But back to the OP's question about value- I do think that these 3 models are very good values. I especially think the Manix 2 is a good value because it is undervalued compared to the others and can be found used for low prices. These models are well designed, well made and use top quality materials, and are not expensive. That is why they are good values.
