Spyderco military lock failure

I've gotta say, this thread gotten my Military back into my edc pocket...
the peep's eyes get a little wide when in use, but most are used to my PM2 any way.

Hi Monster,

We send a great deal of focused attention to our locks. Our knives are very sharp and lock reliability is a prime requirement. I was very surprised to hear of Sandman's experience, but never had an opportunity to inspect the knives, much to my regret. We have an extensive testing lab and when a lock fails, we really like to get the part in our hands to determine the problem.

If you get a chance, check out the new lock on our Native 5 (lite wt or G-10). 2 years in refinement. Our ball locks are also fun.

sal

I really like the Native 5 but I likes the more distinctive swedge on the native 4 better I know everyone loves the ffg but there's something about the spear pint on the native 4's that has me searching to secondary market.

Could be a bad batch that all happened to go to that same Cabelas store. I like many different brands of knives and out of all of my posts in the forums, most are in the Buck, traditional, and Benchmade sections so while I own a few Spydercos, not a fanboy.........But seeing that response from Sal himself, that just really says alot right there! ,I'm going to go and give that Native a closer look.

Is it possible that you might have purchased a Fake Military , Mr. Sandman ? I own two military models myself- a D2 in Smooth edge and an S30V in serrated edge. They are some of the smoothest linerlocks that l have ever seen. I have even used one as a spear by tying it to a bamboo pole to spear fish Tilapia in Tibet. They never failed me in 5 years. In fact , normally l don't trust linerlocks , opting for the more robust lock back. But Spydercos linerlocks changed my mind. I highly doubt that they were original Spydercos .
Oh , and Mr. Glesser , are you planning to re introduce the serrated Military models again ? They do come in Handy. Many of my Friends wants one.

Who are all these whoosies spine whacking Spyder's on their hands? Now if you can get the lock to fail while palm whacking the proper direction for a knife, edge first, then you would have a real story to talk about. [emoji23]

That's what I'm talking about! Cowboy up spinewhackers!! :p

Y'all are confused. We're talking about testing the lock, not the edge - and testing the knife, not yourself. :)

Make it a sprint in 3V and you probably won't have any trouble selling them ;)

I like this idea. I also like the idea of a sprint run in something like 3v or cruwear with a mix of se and pe. Like a 1200 hundred piece run with 900 pe and 300 se. I think it would be a very popular run that would appeal to lots of folks. I would like even more to see the same run for the Paramilitary 2 where we haven't yet gotten to experience cruwear (or 3v).

This is an old thread. But, I just cannot believe anyone could get (2) Spyderco Militaries with bad locks on them.

I wish Sal could’ve received the (2) knives in question. It really sucks, this would’ve been important for Sal to see what exactly went wrong.

I own a Spyderco Military Blurple in CPM S110V, it is a newer satin colored pocket clip model, with all the CQI enhancements as of 2018.

First of all, my only (2) knives get used pretty hard. I couldn’t make my lock fail, if I tried. No blade play, solid lockup, the lockup on the liner is perfectly flush as if it was made this way with purpose fitment. The blade is as always perfectly centered too.

I own (2) knives all together! A PM2 in S110V, and a Military in S110V. Both are super tight, and I don’t see the locks ever failing.

It is unfortunate as to what happen to “sandman” I wish this all could’ve been resolved vs giving up, and going with something the OP did not want.
