Spyderco moving to MAP pricing!

Sometimes change must be adjusted. Building a Dam was a desperate attempt by the Dutch to keep the sea from inundating their country.

I agree that the only constant is change itself. However MAP pricing model is an attempt to fight and hold back the change instead of going along with it.

In this day and age of internet and ever more technology being invented that interrupt and upset traditional business models, such as B&M stores, MAP is trying to preserve B&M store's "competitiveness" by upholding a price where everyone can make money. However, logically this will not work, not for long as it's going against the tide of change.

Walmart killed traditional mom and pap stores and now Amazon is killing Walmart. Uber is killing the taxi business, AirB&B is doing the same thing to hotel chains. The small knife stores and shops will cease to exist if they can't compete, and they won't be able to compete with large retailers with economy of scale.

MAP pricing is a desperate attempt from manufacturers to help the smaller dealers, all this will do is prolong the agony of their money loosing streak, their demise is inevitable.

I think the problem is down the road and a lot of what is happening now for example.

If the monsters take over like they have for example they start to control everything including manufacturing like is happening now to a rather large extent.

No country can really survive for very long without manufacturing or producing products.

The service industry will not support a country and that's were the US is headed at an alarming rate, example of that is over 100 Million unemployed currently here in the US, that's 1 in 3 people unemployed.

There needs to be some very serious thought on how things will progress in the future right here in the US, that's all I am going to say on that.

True, but the latest scientific figure on global warming predict that no amount of dam building will prevent the rising sea level from washing out those land in due time. All it will do is delay the inevitable.

There is no global warming. ;)

The ice caps will melt again at some point like they have before, that is a given.

They have melted and frozen a number of times over the earth's history.

The earth is an ever changing thing.

Thanks Sal. I know it took me a while to write that the way I wanted and I appreciate your time and thoughtfulness.

About the jet pack, gas turbines are expensive. Skip that, leverage the CF and sails and design a personal backpack worn gliding device.

I hope you're joking... but everyone is entitled to their opinions and I will not deny anyone theirs

Well in very far future the Sun will turn into a Red Giant and absorb the 1st 3 planets. ;)

Other than that it's all nothing but normal changes that the planet sees over time.

Won't matter if humans are here or not because in the end (See above) there will be nothing left.

Global warming has become a political issue and we don't do politics or religion on this forum. Your kind understanding and cooperation is appreciated.

I thought it was science I was talking about, but yeah I know.

Was responding to another post. :)

Hi NCCole,

Thanx much for the thoughtful questions.

I'm working on a back-pack idea, but I'm afraid it won't fly. ;)

Sal,

Do you mind me asking the requirements to become and remain a dealer?
