We're close to delivery on the first Mule Team run. Sure did seem to take longer than originally thought. 52100 is a great carbon steel and should be fun to cut with. Not fun to work with though.

I need to select another steel for the 2nd run. Please pick 3 in the preferred order.

thanx much.

What is wrong with what you have been using? VG10 or CPM S30V. It is what you have
plenty of access to. And I think personally it is good steel.

They're finding out ELU views on different steels. And we get to play with new super-steels that we wouldn't otherwise get to handle. Nothing's wrong with VG10 or S30V, but why not push the envelope? Think of it as a fun project to do.

As I said on the Spyderco forum, my preference would be:
YRX7
CPM 3V
Damasteel

Notice I'm not trying for S125V! After Sals remarks about it.

CPM M4
Super Blue steel
YXRZ, or T1 if YXR7 is unavailable. Joe

OK. Now that I Finally Understand and have taken my Meds,You tend to get confused when you don't take your medication.
Try,Drum roll please, Titainium!!

I defer to those more knowledgeable than myself but a thought just occurred to me. I hope that whatever steel is used in each run is stamped on the blade. Others may be able to tell just by looking but between my learner's permit and an ever diminishing memory I could use a little reminder.

13C26 run hard

CPM M4

laminated ZDP

I sent email ages ago, I haven't missed a notification, have I?

Thanks, Gordon

YXR7 is just a conventionally cast high speed steel, CPM-M4 would be a better steel, and more easily obtained.

Yep, both are going to be expensive to buy and process too. I'd guess triple the final cost of the 52100 mules? Then there's the PItA factor. We'll see. Joe
